The upcoming season of “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012“, starting on Zee TV Sep 29, will be one with a bagful of surprises. There will be old songs with a contemporary twist, audience involvement will increase via the web and in a unique addition, “Indian Ocean” fame Rahul Ram has joined the show’s judging panel along with Sajid-Wajid.
Composer duo Sajid-Wajid will return as judges after the last season, aired in 2010.
“We wanted to sit back and research how we can bring in new things and make a difference this time,” explained Sajid, who, along with his brother Wajid, was on the judges’ panel in the last season too. There are a lot of music reality shows nowadays. So we wanted to do something that you won’t see in any other show. It will be a very fresh experience, very youthful and it will have a new generation of creativity,” says Sajid.
“We have seen that often contestants rehearse the old song a lot of times and so are perfect at the melody but when it comes to singing originals track in the studio they tremble,” Wajid said. The composer duo, who have given music for hit films like Dabangg, Housefull 2 and Ek Tha Tiger, say they are compromising on their film projects to concentrate on the show, which goes on air on September 29 on Zee TV.
“It’s lovely to be back again. This show is the first reality talent hunt show in the world. It’s always a pleasure and honour for me, a person who is learning since years like me. The quality of singers is superb. More than a lakh people are shortlisted and the final 15 are chosen.”
It’s quite a surprise in itself to see Rahul Ram, bass guitarist and lead vocalist of Indian Ocean, in a truly Bollywood show like “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012″. Indian Ocean is an Indian rock band formed in New Delhi in 1990. It is considered to be the pioneers of fusion rock genre in India.
Asked about it, he said: “I don’t know why they chose me but I liked the concept of the show and they told me they wanted someone who was not from a Bollywood background. So I thought its a good platform to bring in independent music and merge it with Bollywood tracks,”
Auditions for the show have been held across 12 Indian cities over three months. Over 100,000 aspirants tried their luck, according to the channel.
It will have one surprise judge, whose name will be unveiled in a few days.
