@jennyash … with a name like that, you can’t pretend to be someon above the fray. I can smell a fake a mile away and you stink like the queen of fakes.
I am not against any religion but only those who have been stupefied by religious pretensions.
Then thats all religions! Including Hinduism.
Yes, all religions including Hinduism.
OK – off topic, but this was really funny. Rajiv Gandhi was killed because he sent the IPKF (Indian Peace Keeping Force) to Sri Lanka to put down LTTE activities there, not because he was trying to make a peace treaty with Pakistan.
The LTTE killed Rajiv Gandhi, same as they have killed several Sri Lankan leaders (R. Premadasa, for one), because they believe they stand for Tamil rights in Sri Lanka – something that the Sri Lankan government does not do much for.
People in India may face infighting regarding Muslims, but no political leader of any significance has been assassinated because he/she wanted to make peace with Pakistan. Case in point – Indira Gandhi was killed because of Operation Bluestar in the Golden Temple, and AB Vajpayee, who went the extra mile for Indo-Pak relationships still lives.
Well, if it is a fan site for Raja Hasan I am sure you won’t find too many people singing praises of the person who beat him in votes! It may have nothing to Aneek being Bengali (I am a BIG Aneek fan, BTW).
As far as this season is concerned, somehow Zaheer never caught my fancy. Most of the songs he has sung are Sukhwinder’s. A few exceptions are Lagaan’s Mitwa of Udit Narayan, the song from Partner by Kunal Ganjawala and Nusrat’s Afreen, but he hasn’t really given a performance that I found memorable. Don’t get me wrong – he is good, but not memorable. E.g. people can refer to Amanat’s singing of “Tujhse Naaraaz” last season as memorable.
I feel on this show Pratibha is genuinely versatile and some of her renditions are outstanding, in fact. Vaishali and Soumen are also very good singers overall and have done justice to a lot of challenging songs, but again, they haven’t given a memorable performance. Yashita does the “masti” songs very well and Zaheer does Sukhwinder’s songs very well. Debojit is uneven.
Dare you talk about “Aneek the bong” in this forum!!!!
k guys we had enough of criticizing each other
@AgentX
I agree.. this time it has been a bad srgmp experience overall.. including this forum, unfortunately. Too much negative engergy throughout this season, and the recent incidents have only made this blog worse.
I am sorry it turned out this way. I hope you do visit and continue to share your awesome knowledge of music and poetry. There are still some of us who look beyond regional borders to appreciate some good music.
Take care..
I second that. LOL. Asma’s voice is annoying. She is is irritating generally. GO HOME ASMA.
Jai Hind
God bless America
Pakistan zindabad
These three countries are uniting in their war against terrorism. They deserve our support.
Asma represents India. Her nasal singing has struck fear into the terrorists’ heart.
nycoolj you should become a politician instead of waisiting your time here blabing about the cultures and terrorism.
If ia am queen of fakes than you must be the king of ruthlessness
You are a damn arrogant man i could say more
but hey its time to change the freaking topic
I am a straight talker, hon. With a porn-star western name like yours, you can’t claim you don’t care about western culture. Don’t blame Americans for your own weakness. The truth is self-evident, it doesn’t require proof, and yes, it can be ruthless to liars.
The Honorable Minister PRANAB MUKHERJEE said, “I never blamed Pakistan government for the attacks. I was careful in saying some ‘elements’ in Pakistan were responsible. An eye for an eye is not India’s policy – that would make everyone blind as Mahatma Gandhi said. I just want Pakistan to help us capture these ‘non-state’ actors; they did not come from heaven – they live in Pakistan. The UN Security Council, with support from China, has banned Jamaat-ul-Dawah; I hope Pakistan will arrest the leaders of JuD. India does not agree with the US that Pakistan is an ‘international migraine’ – we believe Pakistan can be a good friend.”
Dear Blog Friends:(especially Rajdeep, Dockaul, AgentX, NyCool, Jamshaid)
I am visiting this forum after pretty long time. I do not have words to express on Mumbai attacks, how deep people over there have gone through. My head bends with shame, when I hear that some of the Pakistanis have done so.
I dont know how long these two countries would keep on fighting, but one thing I am sure that subcontinent people would be far better, when together. Let us not allow hatred win over developing love of the people of these countries. I am again sorry for what happened in Mumbai and I feel your pain.
@Talat,
Good to hear from you after a long long time!
Please don’t feel ashamed, we have no enmity towards the common people of Pakistan. We both are same.
Its some elements who support this terrorism that we are angry about. But this is not the forum to discuss this. Let us all stick to music or whatever is going on in the name of music!
Talat,
I love you for that humble opinion of yours!
I am already fed up of these attacks all over world. We always sympathize with general population who are the direct victims of these attacks which is of course obvious because we see them in media. I don’t know how many of you have seen another group of “aam janata” that suffers – the families and relatives of these terrorists.
I have seen how mercilessly the innocent brothers and sisters of these terrorists are beaten up and even killed. They suffer both ways-
1) they get beaten up in the name of interrogation when they themselves have no idea where their son is in last 2/3 yrs.
2) the boys who realize that they are not following the right path and try to come out of that, their whole family gets killed by the terrorists.
It’s not only Pakistan or Afganistan , any country suffering from poverty and unemployment is prone to these problems. Because this is the easiest way for these poor, deprived, uneducated boys to find identity in life. Who is responsible is the big power that operates behind this. Having said this I won’t say that I feel sorry for Osama Bin Laden because they are the major operating powers. If US created them US should catch them and wipe them out. Otherwise every year they (Osama-types)are recruiting thousands of boys and brainwashing them and it’s very easy to mobilize the poor and uneducated people in the name of religion because they have nothing to look forward to at least they get some money to earn their bread. I heard lately that there are 45000 Jehadis in Assam!!! Gives me goose bumps!! Now if people say you North-eastern people are all terrorists!! I will vehemently oppose that!! I can understand same happens with the “aam janata” of Pakistan.
I hope and pray that we all come out of our prejudiced mind and look at the problem more globally.
Now let’s carry on with our musical debates!!!
Dear Talat Bhai,
Thanks for xpressing solidarity with us in this time of sorrow & outrage. As long as Pakistan has people of your mentality & foresight, there is still chance for us to be united against this scourge which has infested our countries.
@Talat MD, thanks for showing unity. Any honorable person would defend their country’s reputation; that’s exactly what AgentX was doing and I salute him for defending Pakistan’s good name.
The bottom line is that we should not hide our differences. We should talk about them openly, reconcile to the extent possible, and learn to live peacefully together despite the differences. Unity in diversity, not unity in homogeneity.
Some immature folks (jennyash comes to mind) think we should bury our heads in the sand.
Let’s celebrate our diferences. Let’s celebrate Asma’s divine music.
@ Rajdeep, SelecTx, Umer , Ms Analyst etc…
BossLog.. still awaiting the weekly review ..
The current Indo-Pak war going on seems be due to lack of any musical discussion..
Do the honors ..
What to say doc?
The whole forum is now in a mess.
AgentX was right! @ashi is not monitoring the site at all!
dockaul,
Currently I am visiting India for a month. Last week, for the first time I had the chance to see Saregamapa on live television and it looked very dull and ordinary. Don’t know what to write about the show.
At this point, the political discussions sound far more interesting than the show. What do you think ?
so zaheer is out , thats too bad although it is just as well since the climate in india is such that he wouldnt have lasted long in any case.
i really looked forward to his performances.
much respect to doc and senty’s view. it is so easy to get carried away with emotions and fall into the trap of condemning an entire community for the actions of a lunatic fringe.
my stream of conciousness take on the issue:
the silent moderate muslim majority HAS to put its foot down and turn in any terrorists being being nurtured in their midst.
Muslims have to reject the so called preachers and archain madarasas and ensure that their kids get modern education.
the lunatic fringe in the hindu community( modi etc) has to be targetted and isolated and not be allowed to infect the mindset of the aam janta.
Pakistan needs to cleans it house big time of jehadi elements and not be obbsessed with competing with india- india has clearly moved on
beyond that stage.
moderate muslims in pakistan NEED to come out against the jehadi elements being nurtured by ISI
at the end, a strong stable pakistan( as opposed to a weak failed nation with terrorism running rampant ) it in india’s best interest.
ure name sure suits u SPOILER u r a party popper!!!!!!zaheer is not eliminated he is going to rock!!!!!!and if he is i want asma to win and all the other indian contestents 2get eliminated to feel the pain
zaheer has to come back!!!!!!!
What part of the states do you live in Jenny?
Toronto, Canada. Good name Jainab or Zainab or something like that!!
Ask her if I am wrong!!!
I recognize most of the people in this forum!!!
Oh one more point- …she can be nasty with you to any extent …upto maa behen husband wife anything!!!
SRGMP is used to have some of the best singers in the industry. Unfortunately, none of them are on this show!
Quite some back I read the english transaltion of a poem by Sukumar Ray (father of Styajit Ray) which he wrote at the age of 21!
The poem, “Abol Tabol,” (translated alternatively as “Gibberish” or “Gibberish Gibberish” to catch the reduplication), first published in Ray’s book of the same title in 1923:
Come happy fool whimsical cool
Come dreaming dancing fancy-free,
Come mad musician glad glusician
Beating your drum with glee.
Come O come where mad songs are sung
Without any meaning or tune,
Come to the place where without a trace
Your mind floats off like a loon.
Come scatterbrain up tidy lane
Wake, shake and rattle ‘n roll,
Come lawless creatures with willful features
Each unbound and clueless soul.
Nonsensical ways topsy-turvy gaze
Stay delirious all the time,
So come you travelers to the world of babblers
And the beat of impossible rhyme.
It perfectly describes the current SRGMP show!
Thanks for that brilliant limerick.
One should understand Bengali to feel the sweetness of this poem.
Just in case anyone is interested-

so true !
Sorry for the typo!
Onlooker …. don’t be stupid …. india had almost … may be slightly more or less muslims as in Pakistan combined … so we are gonna produce songs that has muslim roots …. besides we speak urdu in hindi movies especially our songs …. even Farsi … the point is we are not like US …. but also there are only few thousand hindus in Pakistan and they have no real issues. I respect you standing upto India US comparison but your facts are not facts. The majority population of both countries wants ties but if you le some rogue elements destroy much needed process than you are no different than those who commits crime against humanity. Let the righteous win over evil. Jai Hind.
For those who are Habib Wali Muhammad’s fans there is a good news!!! He is coming to US to perform live in January 2009. You can check with your desi radio station to get the detailed information about his tour!! That’s how I came to know.
I just love him!!!
Aisi bhigi suhani raat mey…..- I feel intoxicated !!
THANKS for a very refreshing-change-in-mausam of a comment
btw, I think he is based here in the US. Recently there was a show on tvasia, a guftgu types, with HabibWM and his fav songs. Such a humble person he is! A very interesting personality.
Ya .. great songs.. I like his version of “gaye dinon ka surag lekar kidhar se aaya, kidhar gaya woh” over others who have sung it.
Oh really? I didn’t know that he is based in the US! I heard in our FunAsia radio that he will be performing in our city on the 17th of January.
I love his “Tanik dheere se bol koi sun laiga”. I like the way he says “laiga” instead of “lega”.
Reportedly, Lata Mangeshkar is sleeping like a baby these days. She no longer worries about the future of Indian music. She has heard Asma on TV and up close. “It’s time for me to pass the baton to the next generation … Asma is the most deserving candidate”. She has recommended that the title “Omani Kokila” be bestowed upon Asma Md. Al Rafi, Ph.D.
If you don’t have anything to write about the music without confounding it with religion or nationality, do yourselves and others a favor and consider it not worth writing at all. Onlooker, best you keep looking on and shut your pie-hole. Agentx, stay out of sight!
and who are u say all this stuff
Doesn’t take much to blow your mind it seems – not much of a mind I reckon!
you’re as brilliant as hobu-chandra rajar gobu-chandra mantri ! If this is any consolation, it is true of most Sujoys I know ! Maybe it is not your brain, it is your name that is at fault.
Consolation! My foot… Noitall, or whatever your name is (hope you got something more decent in reality). Boycotting Pakistan is not a consolation but one of the several steps that India needs to do now, in order to show its intolerance towards this terror state. I don’t find it amusing to hug a Pakistani as my brother when its army ruled govt is ready to do anything and everything to kill me and my family as I am an Indian, and mind it most of the Pakis, if not all, do not have much problem with that.
I too agree with you and Senty. We had wonderful memories of srgm2007 but this season was a total disappointment, and the recent incidents just made the situation worse.
I can understand ur feeling, it really hurts when baseless accusations are levelled.
Even a layman can understand that what gains pakistan can get from such incidents? nothing!! but troubles, if it is invloved. And I can’t digest that a bunch of ousiders can grab the control of heart of a city for two days!! And on previous occasion the parliament was taken hostage by so called outsiders.. If those are facts then India is in deep trouble, its security must be dumb and deaf (and that also in the current violent trouble times??).
I put my comments right after the attacks that this is a big conspiracy against the fast developing friendship of India & Pakistan. And both governments should work together to reach the depth of this conspiracy.
I think all of the thoughtful persons in this blog have given mature statements but you can’t expect it from everyone. So don’t be upset, let the dust settle and every thing will be back to normal Inshallah.
You have been the energetic and knowlegable contributor on this blog and I always appreciate that. I am also feeling retired from this blog. As said Allama Dr. Iqbal, ” Dunya ki mehfaloon se ukta gaya hoon Ya Rub! – Kia lutf anjaman ka, jab dil he bujh gaya ho” I hope we meet in Senty’s blog. Take care
