Looks like it. I m sure Asma’s cuteness will become stale after a while.
Today, her immediate response “Ithihas” to “what is ‘history’ in Arabic?” was so fake.
Just for the records..
In Arabic “history” is translated to either “tareekh”, “hikayah” or “sajjal”.. it has more then one translations because Arabic is more comprehensive language as compared to english..
Debojit is amazing. I think he is just a victim of Himesh’s dirty manipulation.. Otherwise, A taelnted biy like Debojit has it all to win this contest and he deserves it. I do notknow why SAREGAMAPA had to show that judges were praising him out of sympathy!!! That is so mean…
Debojit, Zaheer, Yashita, Soumen and Pratibha are the best..
I think Sujat is picking up the wrong songs.. He is a very good singer just because of wrong selection of songs.. he is not doing it the best.

HR is famous for manipulations..so lets not go into that.. even though we like it or not , the show is not only to get good singers ,but it works on getting TRp via its melodrama…Our job is to communicate what we feel clearly here regarding singers and nothing else.. Pls remember , more we talk about them and their melodrama (good or bad) more will they be encouraged… Anyways ..YAshita, Debo,Zaheer are the best acc to me .. followed by soumen,pratibha and vaishali..

Millions of Asma fans shed a tear on her deeply personal loss when her father and mother separated over whether a muslim woman should perform on a public stage in a secular country like India. It was heart-breaking but at the same time it is a liberating thought that women cannot be suppressed anymore by outdated ideas of the mullahs that they are men’s property and belong in the kitchen. C’mon people, it’s the 21st century. Sarah is another shining example of muslim women moving forward boldly to claim their rightful position in muslim society.
Needless to say, Asma’s performance was way ahead of others. Zaheer made a valiant attempt. Soumen and Debo did well. Yashita was a pleasant surprise.
This is one great show. Congratulations Zee TV for such a high-TRP show. Some folks on this blog complain that Zee TV is focused on TRP. It’s like saying why are the Tatas focused on Nano! That is the business they are in – get it? The higher the TRP, the more money Zee TV makes.
Nasal singing is the wave of the future and the Rock Kanya Asma is its foremost practitioner.
Did you notice that Zaheer was trying to sing like Asma? He is taking lessons from her which is good for Zaheer because the judges gave him good marks.
Asma has a big heart so she freely gives advice and pointers to the other contestants.
Did you not see.. how THE nose was begging Asma to give him a chance in her whachamacalit mega multistarrer !
Wow ! And the daan veerangna readily accomodated him ! Now, only a magnanimous, spirited, risk taker like our Asma can do something as daring as that !

Besides, as far as MUSLIM women are concerned.. you need to know what MUSLIM women THINK about themselves rather then GUESSING.. when was the last time USA had a female president??.. ummmm.. NEVER!!.. and Asma’s mother is a women, right?
It is a touchy subject, but leme ask all the females one thing.. is it worth? working throughout your life for the sake of showing “more skin” just to be called “liberated” as compared to “be supported” by father/brother/husband/son throughout your life span (no tension of how to support yourself in childhood/youth/middle ages/old ages) on the expense of showing “less skin” and work whenever you “feel like” working “with some restrictions”? Now, don’t tell me that MUSLIM girls do not get education, or are not working in ALL the RESPECTED fields.. “hijab” is ALL what is required (not burqa or FACE cover).. for details.. STUDY, RESEARCH and LOGIC are the three words..
And there are some “fields” where even “liberated” people of the “civilized” world cannot work.. if you cannot think of one, then you need to gain more experience of the world and civilizations around you.. THAT comes with age.. so wait a few decades before commenting on CULTURES and RELIGIONS..
OK.. SORRY.. it IS a musical forum and all the rest is irrelevant.. but people need to know where to STOP and EDUCATE THEMSELF before they make their ESTEEMED comments.. Following the brain-washing campaigns do not make you “literate” it just makes you another sheep in a herd..

@AgentX … whoa dude, I didn’t think you had it in you to ‘feel’ the pain of women. ‘Shed a tear’ is self-explanatory and idiomatically correct, but Asma’s (one and only) mother can’t be ‘women’.
You make it sound like women only have one of two choices – either “be supported” by males or to “show skin”. No other choices available to women in your part of the world?
Are the males, namely “father/ brother/husband/son” born singers and dancers but God deprived the women of certain faculties? Only the males can earn and feed their families?
Ever heard of (or have seen the ‘skin’ of) Indira Gandhi, Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meyer, Benazir Bhutto, Mother Teresa, Lata Mangeshkar, Sania Mirza, and innumerable others?
Are you saying that all female singers are just “showing skin”; that women have no other purpose in life but be sex objects of the male fantasy?
I hope you didn’t mean what you said because if you did, the women in your life will hit you over the head with their sandals to drive some sense into you. I am an Indian male, not a muslim, and yes, I have actually talked to many good muslim friends including girls/women – and they all agree with me – none of them want to be at the mercy of or ‘supported’ by males all their life because not all males are dependable and responsible like me (you’re a good example to the contrary).
Asma will start a movement called “Women’s Self-Reliance Initiative” and will hire males to serve as clowns.

Hello, NYCOOLJ is very true!! Asma and Sarah already expressed what they were goign through because of their sining. Every society has some reservations…why you are becoming extra sensitive about this. He specifically mentioned about mullahs who are fundamentalists not people like you and me.

Asma and Sarah expressed what their culture is, what is happening in THEIR Country.. so everyone can say Pakistani/Indian/Osmani females.. i’m not Defending Mullahs.. i’m defending the “falsified” portrayal of ISLAM.. same as some extremists are called MUSLIM TERRORISTS.. my question is.. why is that, IRA or HITLER are not known as CHRISTIAN TERRORISTS??..

I’m not opening a new frontier (as you mentioned) i’m clarifying a concept where the phrase “MUSLIM women” is used.. one can call them women from sub-continent or something.. Terminology used in “a certain way” can change history one way or the other.. stereo-typing people will always bring grief.. thats what i believe.. so its better to correct before the situation goes out of hand..
I know for certain that there is not even a single country where women which are NOT muslims are being sold / molested / raped / degraded / married without their consent etc.. so why stereotype it???.. we should fight for the just cause not blame lamely..

Zaheer sang fantastic and also Tarun did very well this time.
I thoght Baby Sara would be in the bottom three… and OUT too but unfortunately she is still there, WHAT IS GOING ON. Yashita is better than Baby Sara.
Today’s (18.10.2008) episode will be good… I guess!!!

I haven’t seen the show till now.. after last week’s performances i felt a little disappointed.. still trying to build up “courage” to watch another “slaughter of music” in the name of a “voting based talent hunt”..
Now, after your review.. it seems that it is an episode worth giving a shot.. i’ll watch once i finish my job today..
Your question is good though.. i too wonder why lower scales and control over song in them is not “that much” appreciated these days?.. Maybe its due to “general” lack of understanding about how difficult they are to control..
As far as shujaat is concerned.. i think that person is under-appraised.. Only mistake he makes is moving his body during the song.. I think if you re-hear same song with your eyes closed (or without watching the “performance”), you will feel the soul completely present in his singing..

Anu’s review makes it easier for me to make a go-no-go decision on the show. The sufi round seemed interesting.
IMHO Yashita and Asma are the most consistent singers this season.

Zaheer has jumped ahead. If I were him, I would make the most of it. Give some thundering perfomances and solidify the lead.

consistancy has been only the strong hold of Asma.. all the other contestants have had bad proformances.. but Asma has been consistant.. aap bhi ghaor kijiyay ga.. i said BAD performances
when it comes to SUFI singing in new commers.. i would always compare them with recent heart throb Ali Abbas.. lets see who matches up with him..

You nailed it buddy! That’s the whole thing…”lack of understanding”.
That’s why I mentioned in the begining that Sayon is a far better singer than this lot as he knows how to sing in lower notes and control it. But he is out!

I liked Soumen’s performance. It was better than many. Pratibha sang good but that power was missing in her voice!
And , maybe I am wrong, but I felt that Yashita lost the beat(taal) a couple of times near the end
the upload was not great for the 17th oct episode. the live streaming would get interrupted evry 5 mins. previous episodes never had this issue.

Zillions of Rock Kanya (rhymes with Madonna) Asma’s fans want to know why Zee TV is favoring others over her? Is there a single other contestant who even comes close to Asma’s monumental talent?
Can Zaheer sing the ‘matla’, ‘matqa’ and ‘antara’, even half as well as Asma? No way, Zaheer admits it himself.
Does Yashita have 10% of Asma’s understanding of how the ‘asthai’ should be negotiated? Dream on.

Asma spends 5 hours a day just on breathing exercises so she can perfect both her ‘chest voice’ and her ‘falsetto’ – so that her nasal singing can through powerfully to touch the listener’s heart.
The rest of Asma’s day is spent in helping poor children (she does not get paid for it like Shefali Sunderlal of CRY does), planting trees to save the environment, talking to world leaders about world peace, and other acts of befitting a princess.
She wants to learn Hindi and Urdu but, again in her sense of originality, she has decided to first learn Sanskrit and Farsi.
In the next episode, if asked, she’s going to quote from Bhagwad Gita (on the meaning of ‘karma’ – an oft-misused word in the West), and from Omar Khayyam’s poetry.

this week show was good, minus kaushik was in the bottom 3… pakistan ki bhatie and aasma was in among the others , how come??? is money being paid to zeetv to keep them in or to the judges???…Zaheer and tarun was excellent this week and credit must be given to these two singers for their achievement and ability

Okay.. Is it only me? Or has the standard of this show suddenly increased tremendously?? As compared to previous episodes, I would give this episode 10/10..
I think the contestants have shown that IF the drama factor is taken out of this competition, they can give marvellous performances. Each and everyone gave their best shots.. yes!! Even Asma gave her best performance to-date..
I will like to request judges to be neutral from now on, no more “Tumhara pati idhar hai, tum nay us kay liyay gaya hai is liyay history” or such crazy statements.. Vishali was not upto the standards of other singers who got history so she should have been given superhit or something..
Zaheer, Pratibha, Kaushik and tarun were excellent.. Debojit, Shoumen and Sara were very good.. but there are two performances which I would like to talk about specifically..
“Sufi ang” demands singer’s inner self.. aik “pukaar” hai jiss ko nibhana hai.. improvisation is THE key to it.. lagay bandhay aur copy cat singers don’t work.. cuz only the original singer and that also “on that certain time” can give the performance which was recorded.. copying it can be good but u have to let yourself GO if you want to put the feel in it.. you have to improvise YOUR feelings into it..
The two performances I want to talk about are Yashita and Shujaat.. I don’t know why but to me those were the only two jinhon nay mujhay jhoomnay par majboor kar dia.. I don’t want to go in technicalities.. but MAN they were just OUTSTANDING..
I don’t know what went wrong with judges when shujaat was singing.. I can understand about Pritam and Himesh but what happened to Aadesh and Shankar??.. I just can’t understand..

I think selection of the songs (chaloo?), Melodrama, Saas-bahu kay jhagray and all the other “crap” was playing a BIG role in “us” under-rating these singers..
Well for me.. NOW, I am looking forward to next performances by these two..

I fully agree with you about shujat and yashita. They ventured out of the comfort zone. zaheer didnt take chances but was very much into the sufi spirit. i also totally agree with you abt trying to listen to shujat with eyes shut. the effect is amazing. his movements can indeed distract listeners from the beauty of his renditions.
i find shujat very very promising.
i dont want to be a partypooper but, just for the heck of it.. sometime, listen to other singers also with eyes closed.. you’ll know the difference.. only a couple will come out as winners..
