This show is pikcing up well. A few deserving contestants had to leave early and that really wasn’t fair. Like most poeple, Shashi was favourite of mine. He had this tremendous ability to carry each song beautifully. What a range, what throw, what technicality.
there was a time when I could have said with my eyes closed that only a trained singer like him or Pratibha would have won. Today I am sad to say that standards have dipped so far that trained poeple have to sing pop/rock/rap/hip hop and even eliminated in the process!
Looks, nationality, sympathy factors are what drives votes today. A genuinely good singer like Nihira ould not win challenge 2005. Anwesha Dutta the child prodigy could not win chote ustaad. What a mind blowing talent that child was. She could sing eacha nd every song be it a lata number, an asha number or her idol shreya’s numbers with great ease. have any of you heard her? Mind blowing, as himesh would say!
But somewhere singing is getting diluted. The genuinely good singers like shashi and pratibha do not need SMS to make them winner, but it seems true support is alcking for true artists.
I hope all of you forgive me for ranting on, but I miss the earlier days of saregam when a aclassically trained Sanjeevani, neha rajpal, bela, shreya ghoshal, ronkini gupta could win. pure melody, pure singing, no drama. Ah…those were the days
i am just looking farward to next week’s show to find out what they are (zee team) are upto.how many singers will come back.till then we can only assume with our fingers crossed.has anyone noticed that this time it was such a bigg fuss that most of us dont even remember about gharana stuff?like on friday hamesh said zaheer is only left for me on saturday so i pin my hopes on him!so what a mess.

If I may add my 2 cents , IMHO deepali has a very soulful voice and sings with all her heart . Sara on the other hand has a very childlike /playful voice or she tries to portray a very innocent self . not that there’s anything wrong with it . But with this competition thats supposed to judge based on voice quality and versatality , deepali should have won her vote against Sara . Sara tries to add her own into every song she sings. The original “Kehna hi kya” is such a wonderful song, i don’t believe Sara did justice to that song and like someone (pardon me, i remember not who said so) said, she sings with her head voice, not her gut voice. Yes like Pritam said, Naina now needs to rediscover herself and sings something of another genre. She has sung one too many Richa Sharma songs. She has a really beautiful mellow voice. My favs are Naina, Kaushik, Pratibha, Zaheer and Shashi ( if he can make it back).
Whichever mentor gets to pick contestants for the brahmastra round will obviously pick his favorite and not necessarily the most deserving one . So i don;t really think we would have much say in who gets back ..my guesses are Shashi And Sunvinder.

Amazing, just last year she was a NOBODY , and in this song, she made it cler she has ARRIVED ! she exploded literally in the middle of the song and that last Murki was a class of its own, FANTASTIC, and yes History and Geography as well !

$hashi.. i have a request.. we have a link of Indian Idol and Voice of India on saregamapa Show.. is it possible to have a link to a page giving videos of “Junoon kuch kar dikhanay ka”?.. cuz honestly.. if they kept up with this kind of program and if they keep on bringing such contestants.. they deserve to be known.. few things about this show which i have found out..
1. There are contestants from All over the place.. India, Pakistan and even Canada.. but it is NOT a Vishwa “Yudh”.. its just a singing competition..
2. Annu Kapoor.. when calling a contestant never uses his country name.. he just calls the name of the contestants..
3. There is no reference or any argumentative statement in all the shows i have watched till now..
4. There is no “drama bazi” in the show.. no personal life or family of any contestant is discussed in the show..
5. The difficulty of songs selected for contestants is a lot more then what we are use to listen in VOI, SAREGAMAPA or Indian Idol..
6. Judges do not give 10 Marks just for the heck of it.. they do JUDGE the contestant and give them marks accordingly..
For all the music lovers here who have a thirst of pure and honest musical competition.. i’m giving a link to a website which has links to most of the episodes.. I hope this show keeps up what it is doing in future also..

I second that, it is a beautiful show with no daramz and distingushing b/w pak n india, I love Annu Kapor style of hosting, his grip on Urdu poetry and on music is something to watch for especially in earlier episodes. Ali Akbar, Ali Abbass, Harsh, Abhaas and “matti k lal”‘z 2 ladies are awesome. Must watch this pure musical show.

Right, I have dish network and therefore all the channels, BUT THE NDTV ! and as if that was not enough, I can Get NDTV if I disconnect the dishnetwork and opt for Direct TV, OR, have both and my roof would look like a Research lab, I already have three, but Direct TV guyz said, you MUST atleast have the lowest package in order to have NDTV and yes 2 MORE dishes !
I guess I am better of begging DOCKAUL and AgentX ( dude are you from starwars ?) to post links and be happy watching VY09, VOI on weather channel for a whopping 145.00 Dollas !

Looking at all these online links.. I am thinking y not ditch the dish and spend the money on upgrading to a newer laptop instead. Aaraam se apne time mein apne choice ke TV shows dekho. There is muft.tv, hulu.com and wat not. Infact, $hashi updates srgmp videos even before the darn show gets aired in the pacific coast !
I could use the disconnected dish to collect rainwater !
BTW, I get these annoying “haalo maam.. how are u today” calls from dishnetwork EVERYDAY asking how the weather is in my parts of the world.. And very soon, they are selling me a second receiver for a second TV !
Indian Idol is coming up next.. I hope this one doesnt end up being another joke as it was last year.

oh my god!i am really shocked that Deepali was eliminated.I feel Deepali is a versatile singer and even on 6th of sept she did really well.Coming to the duet song she did show some anger on her face but even after repeated practice if Sara cannot remember her lines then what is she good at???Sara is getting a life everytime dunno y or how??? Deepali’s elimination is a wrong decision for sure.She did well than Sara and Zaheer.

When she was comapred with the other girl in Eklavya gharana, I thoght the other girl sang better! (but I am no music expert).
In the episode when Manisha got eliminated, Deepali was the weakest!
Next episode, she sang well but as Sureshji pointed out that she was out of sur quite a few times!
So what’s the big deal about Deepali?
I belive NDTV is available in the US if you get Direct TV with the Hindi package. Of course you would have to forsake SRGMP
and ZEE , no point in having both DISH and DIRECT ..

I did not miss your link, I just forgot to mention since, I was hooked on to this site since morning, I am genuinely thankful to you for without you, I may not have been able to find the greatest collection that you have on esnip and also appreciate your genuine efforts of finding and then posting the links and sharing it with us both here and on senty’s blog. when senty returns she would probably share the same sentiments. for now though she is bracing to tackle IKE or YIKE or YUKKY or whatever that hurricane is called. I’m not speaking for her, I just wanted to acknowledge your sincere efforts. To eliminate singers of the calibre of Akbar Ali, Saptak , Sharib Sabri, Lakhwinder Wadali,Mohd Wakil . WOW !! Do check youtube for all the performances of the above named singers who have been eliminated ! Among the surviving Abhaas Joshi should win (?) Ali Abbas is awesome too!
I am not so sure about Abhaas winning.. Agreed he is a good singer but.. how would you say… kacha hai abhi.. needs more experience and riaz.. which he lacks a lot.. Chalantar ganay gana ya filmi ganay gana is not so difficult.. See him in Sufi or Folk style.. jahaan alaap aur raagniyon kay khail thay.. jahaan murkiyan aur paltay they.. jahaan taanain lagani theen.. he was strugling there.. though he was not bad.. be he surely was not good either..
As compared to him.. Ali Abbas is more mature and has more control on his sur and taal.. and feel.. come on.. would any body question on that?.. i think Ali is more deserving..

I appreciate your 2 cents. I agree in totality with all your surmises but the fact remain that the best NEVER ever come out the winner in these reality shows based on public voting. In an utopian world Amanat Ali in VY07 , Toshi Sabri in VOI 07 , Nihira/Hemchandra/Himani in SRGMP 05 would all have been winners. I do hope you noticed that strategically placed ? after winner which conveyed my doubts of this choice but old timers will remember my forecasting Aneek’s win way before the finals.
We may not like it but Vox Populi rules.

It almost said and shared teh feeling of all of us about VY09, its ture, sometimes its EMBARRASSING the way they are conducting the show, it has everything but Music, even Saregama little champs was better than this Maha Yudh.
All sung n performed awesome except Dipali and she was rightly eliminated. Anupama has never been a good singer i wonder how she was allowed to perform up till now. Anyways both these contestants hd no skill no sur. Kaushik and Sara both are worlds best singer they every time make the history. Sara seems a versatile singer and every one want her in Grand Finale. her confidence, her sur, her grip on song everthing is wonderful and up to mark. The mentors should appreciate this new talent instead just throwing normal remarks at her performance.
Ok here is my BIASED two cents. But I am serious.
This time, girls are better than boys on an average. So all the top three singers should be girls. Pratibha (undoubtedly no. 1), Nayna /Yashita (not sure about the ranks).
Sorry for the sexist comments. But girls hardly become toppers you see!!!
I agree. it’s a strong group of girls here in general and I hope most of them make the top 5. My fave is Mithika though – very distinctive voice – but I also like Yashita, Pratibha and Naina. Sarah has much confidence and personality but I do not believe she has the range of the others.

Shujaat also doesn’t have any variation,, look for Debojit and learn from him. As because those paki singers are from some Gharana, doesn’t mean that they are great.

Okay.. here is my “Tarot Card” and “Astrological” reading for this show’s future..
I am going to give my predictions about the recent runners of SRGMP show .. not considering external/unforeseen or dramatized reasons.. just purely on merit.. namely..
Naina: To me has a strong future in this show.. she has a very wide range to her singing.. very clear voice.. but she has to be careful about going in low notes.. she loses control there.. If the judges didn’t play with her mindset and confidence.. she is going to be a treat to listen.. definitely final 5 contender..
Mitika: has good potential.. but the problem with her is.. she rarely uses her own voice.. each time she sings, her tonal quality changes.. even within the song she switches from one voice base to another.. I don’t know weather I should call it a falsetto or what but that takes away the magic.. and leme tell you.. I am not talking about kharaj or high/low notes.. If she is not careful with that, I don’t think she will last long..
Pratibha: has clear and crisp voice.. good range.. good pronunciation.. but she needs to let herself go.. seems too tense.. she has to open up and relax a bit.. she has more range to her voice if she picks her chin up when reaching high notes.. that will increase her range potential and throw.. to me.. she is a very strong contender for the final 5..
Yashita: A strong opponent to Naina.. I would give her more marks then Naina as her control over lower notes is more then Naina.. very clear and crisp voice.. good pronunciation and good attitude during the song.. literally soothes herself into the song from beginning.. definitely a final 5 contender..
Sara: Has a very good potential.. will be very good in soft melodious numbers.. has good control on her gala for her age.. I was not counting her to be a strong contender till her last performance due to her nasal voice and child like voice but in her last performance nasal affect was not that much.. and after that I am looking forward to her next performance to make up my mind.. right now.. not a final 5 contender..
Kaushik: A very good voice quality.. is very good in high notes.. the only thing I’m afraid is, he is gona be a one style singer.. besides that, he faces difficulty in lower notes.. and his range is not very wide.. on top of that he needs to learn to say words clearly during the songs.. sometimes Dundee marta hai.. I wont count him to be a strong contender for final 5 right now..
Debojit: To be honest.. this guy is being overhyped.. he has a lot to take care of.. clarification of words being the major one and I don’t think he will be able to control that problem during this show.. good in chalantar songs with high pitch and loud music.. but will face difficulty where the loud music will not be there to hide his problems or he has to sing a soft song in low notes.. on occasions he goes too high and seems to be shouting instead of singing.. I honestly don’t see him going too far.. but probably like VOI’s Zakir Hussain, the “special” child gimmick will work for him.. as for me.. not a final 5 contestant..
Zaheer: I can’t say anything about this guy with certainty.. to me.. he is well versed in classical singing and has a good potential.. my only concern about this guy WAS his tonal quality.. it suits only few kind of songs but with his last performance in duet.. he has given me something to think.. he changed his gram.. his base voice.. to get the “bharao” in his voice.. and I kinda liked it.. I’ll have to listen to him more.. but he definitely has the potential to go far.. right now.. not a very strong final 5 contender..
Shujaat: The most classically trained singer of the whole show.. has excellent control on his voice.. has been played down by the gurus after his second performance (threat to the script?) so he lost his confidence.. to me his performances have been better then most contestants.. very good tonal quality.. and I wont count him a “show off” when he inserts his own variations in songs.. its typical of “trained” singers.. they can’t stick to the script.. mussarat and amanat use to do it a lot.. I would count him in “playing mode” right now.. but he has to become serious pretty soon.. definitely a final 5 contender as far as I am concerned..
Okay enough said.. lets see if my predictions are right or not with the passage of time..

Good observation but I beg to differ in some cases…
Naina… excellent voice quality, but sings only Richa Sharma songs. She is yet to prove herself in low notes .
Yashita… clear voice. But overconfidence may bring her downfall.
Debojit… not overhyped. Always gives soulful performances.
Kaushik and Naina… my two best bets
Shujad… I have my reservations!

seeing the flooding of different sites and links on this blog,my mind went to an eight year old incidence which i would to share with you people and request you to just see the light side of it.it was when i was a medical student and was studying in a famous medical college in lahore,we used to have a canteen.one of our hostel and class fellow ,imran,never used to pay the bill and used to ask the owner to write it down.once it rained for several days and it almost flooded.i was standing in hostel shade and the owner was standing next to me.i saw half of his canteen submerged in water,i said to him”mushtaq tumhare canteen to doub gaye?”and several years on,i still remember his answer,he said”je dr.sahib,adhe barish ne dobo de,adhe imran sahib ne dobo de” and ilaughed like hell.now im qouting it here because i feel saregamapa like that submerged canteen,but im unable to figure out those two factors responsible for this,may be you might be able to figure out those two?

I obviously don’t care about Sara, but ustad amjad ali khan is India’s treasure. I’m quite sure you are one of the 0.1% of indians who do not appreciate his contribution to India and Indian classical music and you are commenting about a musical program ?

Dude, partly agree with your analysis, and partly agree with rajdeep, and partly agree with Dockaul. somehow, there are so many other variables that can and DO influence the outcome of every reality show. While I do think that Kaushik is definitely a very strong contender and so are yashita, naina, pratibha,zaheer , deboit and shujaat (in no particular order), and this is puerly on their singing ability. but I am quite positive that in the end, drama, confusion, chaos and more TRP gimmicks will prevail and none of these will be the winner but somebody who either enters the contest through brahamashtra, shastra , booti shooti, or from some regional contest will surface as the winner, the ELEMENT of surprise is something that overshadows the whole SINCERITY of these shows. If i’m not mistaken Aneek Dhar was the winner of sargmp bengali and entered the SRGMP 07 half way through the contest and eventually became the winner. and like Dockaul said, the BEST seldom wins in reality shows, somehow the STRATEGICALLY PLACED, and Manipulated always stares the real winner in the face and in most cases gets away with the trophy. if you ask me, I’d say mussarat was the winner of 2007 or atleast the TOUGHEST contestant of 2007 but Himesh shamelessly sidelined him and that is something that makes me think if there is something called TRUE talent hunt, because if a himesh can influence the outcome and BL can make you gulp down a “MAIYYA MAAIYA” for weeks on end, you only wonder like Dockaul !
But if everything goes the way it is ( I highly doubt that ! because of TRP reasons) you have mentioned the above the ordinary singers, or to say the least the contestants with real talent.
BTW, I have deliberately not included Sara’s name , I maintain that she is a very ordinary singer, but thats just me !

winner is going to be decided by “janta!” (?) and surely TRP, SMS, population of village/city/state, poor family background (supported by toon toon taan taan in the show), special contestant (with tears from family members), counts a LOT.. just.. singing capability is overlooked..

As fellow music lovers I implore you to not disparage Gajendra Singh who has single handedly been reponsible for this current interest in Music reality shows. BTW I am sure that you guys must be knowing that GS has not been involved with SaraDrama for the past 3 years. Mehfil dear ,being from the filmi nagri I am sure you must be familiar with the fact that in TV & Films it is the PRODUCERS which rule. The crass commercialization of SRGMP must surely be due to the dictates of the Shylocks of ZeeTeeVee with GJ being a hapless puppet who was ultimately forced to quit .
Ultimately what matters is the CLASS of the performers. SRGMP was similarly tacky even last season..(Bappi Da’s walkout, Aneek – Sumedha- Amanat triangle ? , HR’s immortal Mujhe tere ghar mein Roti nahin Biryani chahiye, Da Darbar crying foul at Aneek’s win et al) The only reason all of us spent hours of our precious time watching,reviewing ,petitioning, ranting, crying etc. was because of the performers. Mussarat , Amanat, Poonam , Raja , Aneek etc who gave us endless enjoyment which tended to hide these horrendous moments.

Absolutely right, but gajendra singh is not the Gajendra S of the 80’s when he was the creator , hardly being seen, if I’m not mistaken, he started producing immediately after a few episodes of antakcharri Was he not the first prod. of antaksahri ? I do not know if he still is ! ) I beleive the VOI is also his thingy, is he the prooducer of VOI ? I dont know. I do know that a program is created and conceived purely on the basis of entertainment, all the X-FACTORs or the external factors are ADDED later for the monetary benefit.

naina needs to learn the art and science of performance and eloquence from sara.
naina, yashita, pratibha and their sister deepawli are between the devil and the dead sea. on one hand, all they do is cram every sang they have to perform thus eliminating the soul (the could have hired robots instead of them ) and on the other hand, they have to compete with sara, someone with God gifted voice.
no matter how much good naina, pratibhra, deepawli, and yockhita put into their performance, they don’t have the gift of a ‘unique’ voice .I think they should pack their bags and stop wasting our time.
i Disagree with you , Pratibha is a good singer. Craming song is a different thing but singing with a full soul in it is the different thing. Out of those 3 that you have mentioned i do like pratibha.

I just want to say elimination of Dewas girl on that day was totally unfair and partial. Sara should be out because of the mistake and weak performace. Check the episode again to hear comments of judges on that day for both the performances and you will come to know what’s going on in the back. Also Tarro card lady was pure fraud and pre-planned as fight between Sara and Sathe was pure scripted to advertise tarrot card lady. Saregama is doing anything now to win viewership
