Everyone, we need to bring back the Bihari-babu Sashi. Zee is mad if they think we will agree with their crazy games. Sashi left home at a young age, went to Lucknow to join his guruji. UP people should also vote for him. Guruji Aadesh Shrivastava has said that Sashi is the best.

To understand the dynamics of this program, we first need to realize, what the judges are looking for. They are looking for a play back singer who is unbeatable in most prevalent singing line and can sing in multiple other formats effectively to survive through current film industry requirements. Versatility is strongly desired. In other words they are looking for another Sono Nigam equivalent, not the Great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. So anyone, who is best at Classical format, might not be the person required. We need to understand this fact prior to any judgment regarding this competition.
I regularly follow this competition despite my know how about music is limited. Here it is what I think about the contestants.
To me the competition lies among these contestants. Yashita, Zaheer, Shujaat, Kaushik, Pratibha, Souman, Veshali, Debojit, Faraz, Mitika. It is not justifiable to rate these singers at this stage, when competition is quite open and we do not know much especially about Souman and Veshali.
Yashita: She is probably the most versatile, ready-to-sing, confident singer of the competition. She is not afraid to experiment and has the inherent quality of adaptability. She would lose this competition only if she becomes over-confident or fails to keep up with competition’s tempo, which appears highly unlikely. She has already proven many a things, which are required for today’s playback singer. The challenge for her from here on is persistence and maintenance.
Zaheer: He is well-learnt singer who is doing well. Among male singers he is the one, who is versatile, technically correct and is ready-to-sing. He has shown that he can sing well in regular, rock, ghazal and conventional Punjabi formats. He on one hand can sing like Sukhvinder, Hariharan and Sukhinder Singh and on other like Suresh Vadekar. But his inherent weakness is his voice texture, which might not suit well to contemporary film cast. Even with this drawback, he is very versatile and strong contender. Over confidence and wrong choice of song might eliminate him.
Shujaat: He is probably the most talented singer of the competition. The best about him is his quality of experimentation, which might be lethal for him as well. He is the only singer apart from Yashita, who has shown the talent of ‘ Self Improvisation’. Although, he has sung very well in Sufi and Classical formats and have frequently mixed up the contemporary music with Classical touch, but he is still facing the challenge of adaptability. He has effectively bridged this gap at times, but at times has failed by over mixing the classical texture into regular formats. He needs to understand that overdoing classical movements into regular format might spoil the originality of song. He also forgets about the feel and tempo of a regular song, while doing so. Anyhow, he is the man with the best potential for survival in music industry, provided he overcomes the challenge of adaptability. I do not agree with Hamesh that he should stick to Sufi format alone, I think he has the potential to sing anything. Despite all this, he would eventually fail in public voting. It would be good for him, however, to learn the basics of regular film music, which is far more advanced and developed in India as compared to Pakistan.
Kaushik: He is very sweet and with good application of what he has learnt over the years. His voice texture is better as opposed to Zaheer and is as skillful as Zaheer. He has attempted various formats of singing successfully. I feel Zaheer and Kaushik are singers of equal caliber and both face similar challenges. He needs to work on lower notes a bit more. He is damn good.
Pratibha: An excellent voice quality and texture she has. As opposed to Yashita, she still needs to face the challenge of versatility. She might collapse to Yashita in this fight, but she has enough courage and talent face Yashita well. She is an excellent contestant, I wait for her performance and look forward to her jab with Yashita.
Soueman and Veshali: Both are great however still too early to say anything about them as they have performed once on this stage. Souman has excellent voice quality and texture, probably the best one. Veshali’s voice becomes very thin on higher notes. She probably would fall in front of Yashita and Pratibha. Competition is quite open and they might step up the ladder as we move ahead.
Debojit: Excellent voice with skillful addition of feeling. He needs to work on his pronunciation. He also faces the challenges of versatility and adaptability. The former two are the biggest one for him. He might fall in the middle of competition.
Faraz: Has failed in meeting the basic requirements of the competition. He possesses one of the best voices but he still needs to work on few things. The mixture of feel, notes, tempo etc is required for better performance. Occasionally, he grabs one or two of them and loses the third. He is talented but still needs hard work and nerves.
Mitika: She is enough beautiful to use it for concealment of the technical failures. After all the radars are on, let us see how far her beauty takes her.
Rest of singers, to me, would be the first to be eliminated.
The competition is open and I feel any of the above can win.

absolutely correct, I coudn’t agree more specially what you said about shujaat, I think he OVERRUNS the classical into semi-classical and bollywood, and this not the first time I’m noticing that, Ali abbass and asad abbass are also doing it in other prog. I don’t get it ? its not that they are singing a NEW song, they all are singing what has already been hits. yet in their own rendition, they tend to either “IMPROVISE” to much or are just too much into classical that they find it difficult t return to the Prime sur. Whatever it maybe, i look forward to a “DHANSU” performance by shujaat and kaushik both

Welcome abroad Talat Sb. Good to hear from another music lover.. I agree to you on your analysis of contestants.. but on the format of show and what they are looking for.. I still have my reservations.. as they started with “we need a person who can sing all type of songs” and then in between comments like “you should stick to this type of singing” and “we are looking for a specialist for THIS kind of genre” makes me wonder..
Well.. atleast on one thing all of us agree that Shujaat is over doing it.. but my approach is a bit different on this issue.. to me.. IF he is capable of IMPROVISING then he SHOULD do it.. this shows his range, versatility, character and capability.. anyone can be a copy cat but making a song PERSONAL is different..

I have stopped trying to understand the dynamics of this program ! So now, I watch this show more so for my own entertainment. Just want to hear some some good melodious great awesome singing..
So far I have liked all of Yashita’s performances. She is a complete package.
I agree with your analysis on the folks that I have followed so far. Shujjat, Yashita, Naina, Kaushik.
Pratibha and Shujjat score high on the technical scale, Debu on the “feel” scale.
I have not read any negetive comments about new entry Vishali. But, I thought her “nimboo” song was very very unimpressive. Lets see .. its one of her initial performances on this stage. So maaf !

You, my friend, obviously have nothing to do all day except blurt out this ridiculous analysis which has “Paki Lover” stamped all over it.
Yashita is the most besura singer currently on display…right after Asma. Her danger is that she ‘appears’ to be surila when SHE’S NOT! Has everybody forgotten her disgraceful ‘Meter Down’ performance?! She also sings in a different voice to her own. All in all - she’s a FAKE!!
As far as Sara Raza and Zaheer go - get rid of them. All they do is cause trouble and things were better when they were in Lahore and not poisoning the sets of SaReGaMaPa Challenge 2009!

Great Analysis Talat … I agree with you EXCEPT what you think of Faraz Butt … I really think he is the dark horse of this competition and should be up there in the top 3 (or top 5 for sure). He is exceptional in high notes and the way he reverts back to the low notes with such ease is really something … Even Mussarat who can do wonders in high region (utaraang), most of the times was not able to control the low notes on the descent(poorvaang). Faraz hasnt shown any such weakness in his performances to date.
Judges always had the complaint that the ‘feel’ was missing in faraz’s performance but after this episode with the sufiyana kalam and the emotional scene, this issue is also gone … or perhaps this emotional drama was part of some grand scheme of ZeeTV …
And well lets also not forget that Faraz is the Saregamapa Middle East champ … hmmmm it does seem like i am a fan of his doesnt it ? 
well no … im just trying to be fair and i do think he is better than the ratings that he is been getting … Lets see if i am right in the next few episodes or not …

Talat’s analysis is very poor. He lives in fool’s paradise. Writing too long is not a proof that he is right on mark or ‘very well said, or very good analysis. Vaishali is a strong contestant there. And only one who can beat her is Sara Raza. Sara is a versatile singer and has full command on classical, gazal and rock singing. Sara’s voice texture is more powerfull than vaishali’s. Both of them seems will go to final 3s. Singing potential of Sara Raza is unbeatable. And talat i tell u in advance that Mitika and Debojit will be eliminated in next coming episodes. Its my prediction and your analysis is rejected straightway.

I have been visiting this forum for a long time. After reading all your comments this is what I have notice:
This forum is highly biased towards Pakistanis. Most of you are die hard Pak-supporters-(I will say majority).
Last year when Anamika Chowdhury denied singing in one of the episodes. Most of you were criticizing her (including some of the so-called docs and shayars)she was immatured, she tried to get extra votes, …blah..blah…blah.
This year Sarah did a similar ‘natak’ and all of your are “CHUP”. Noone has the balls to say a word about her nautanki.
SOme of you guys are even playing double standards. It’s one of you (regular boggers) who answers back in equal degree of nastiness to Jeny and Shiela when they called Asma and Sarah “Wh*re”.

Sorry, but cannot agree with you.
Secondaly there is something called freedom of speech. If somebody is biased towards Pakistani contestant and have enough time to post number of messages then it does not mean that this forum is biased! That goes for those who supports only Indian contestants too.
As for Sara, there are quite a few messages which criticized her.
As far as NYCOOLJ is concerned, all his messages are about Asma nad Sara and according to your observation power he is not biased!

I am a free-thinker and don’t have a follow-the-herd mentality. Tagore said, “If no one heeds your call, go it alone”. So I do. I am also a fan of Albert Einstein, Jagdish Basu (of “boson” fame), and Jimmy Carter.

I agree with you Jamshed regarding Faraz. I am a bit harsher on Faraz, because I expect a lot from him as does Aadesh. As rightly pointed by great Ghulam Ali, he does not ‘think’ about the song, just sings. He has problem with mixing the song components effectively although he can sing anything very beautifully. I think Suresh Vadeker is right, he has ’some’ time to solve this issue, which I think is narrowing.

My first time on the blog - have just been reading all these days and analysing. I agree with all that Dr. Waseem has expressed except Shujat. He can only sing classical based songs and will not be able to render a simple soft song like say for instance song Maa from taare zameen par. Being a singer myself and an absolute passionate lover of music, let me tell you this - it is a very easy song but very difficult to sing it with the feeling and soft texture that Shankar has sung it with. It takes great music calibre to sing even a simple song. Faraz may be a good singer but not a consistent one. He makes you wanna sit on the seat edge uncomfortably because you never know when he will lose his sur or pitch. Zaheer’s best ever song was the hip hop number. His beat, attitude, rhythm and everything looked so contary to his conservative look. Vaishali I thought was good but very shrill and shreaky and didnt sound all that great. Consistent singers thus far have been kaushik, yashita, prathiba.Shashi is a classical singer but his saawarey song didnt do anything to me. He didnt come anywhere close to our amazing Mussarat
