I predict Asma will be the 2009 champion. If she is cheated out of it by the unscrupulous elements (you know who you are – Mehfil, et al), then Sarah is the next best thing.
And don’t be stupid. I am absolutely not biased – I am neither a Pakistani or Arabic, nor a Muslim. I am as Hindu as you can get but also just as unbiased. I am a free-thinker and don’t have a follow-the-herd mentality. Tagore said, “If no one heeds your call, go it alone”. So I do. I am also a fan of Albert Einstein, Jagdish Basu (of “boson” fame), and Jimmy Carter.
I am trying to learn Hindi and Urdu (maybe that’s one of the reasons I empathize with Asma). I can speak respectable French and Bengali.
@AgentX – I will buy your book when it comes out.

You, my friend, obviously have nothing to do all day except blurt out this ridiculous analysis which has “Paki Lover” stamped all over it.
Yashita is the most besura singer currently on display…right after Asma. Her danger is that she ‘appears’ to be surila when SHE’S NOT! Has everybody forgotten her disgraceful ‘Meter Down’ performance?! She also sings in a different voice to her own. All in all – she’s a FAKE!!
As far as Sara Raza and Zaheer go – get rid of them. All they do is cause trouble and things were better when they were in Lahore and not poisoning the sets of SaReGaMaPa Challenge 2009!

Wasnt that some fantastic singing or what ! Ritisha’s first performance blew me away. I too youtube her “baaju band” regularly.
She is reason enuff for me to follow VOI over srgmp. Shraddha is top class too. Now do we have a brahmastra booti in this show? Naah ! What a loss !
Its only after “public voting” rounds began, the quality of song selection deteriorated in VOI as well.
Public voting … hmm.. I will be very surprised if Ritisha wins VOI.

I agree with you Jamshed regarding Faraz. I am a bit harsher on Faraz, because I expect a lot from him as does Aadesh. As rightly pointed by great Ghulam Ali, he does not ‘think’ about the song, just sings. He has problem with mixing the song components effectively although he can sing anything very beautifully. I think Suresh Vadeker is right, he has ‘some’ time to solve this issue, which I think is narrowing.

Someone asked about Naina. She is good rather very good, but problem is that she is competing against Yashita and Pratibha, who are definitely better.

Out of the 16 ocntestnats who came in 1′st epsiode, only 5 made it to top 14- debojit,mitika, naina,pratibha and tarun. Rest the 4 who made it to the garanas- sara, shujat, faraaz and zaheed amde it to top[ 14 despure fraaz being eliminated. This is a conspiacy indeed

Mehfil NY rajadeep doc are all cool good people but they don’t own this space – they are participants only. DO you know that many of your fellow Indians living abroad (also Paks, Bagladeshi , Nepali, Sri Lanlans)are fighting every day to be the toppers in their field.Most of them have come up with flying colors? DO you want them to be kicked out of these countries?

My first time on the blog – have just been reading all these days and analysing. I agree with all that Dr. Waseem has expressed except Shujat. He can only sing classical based songs and will not be able to render a simple soft song like say for instance song Maa from taare zameen par. Being a singer myself and an absolute passionate lover of music, let me tell you this – it is a very easy song but very difficult to sing it with the feeling and soft texture that Shankar has sung it with. It takes great music calibre to sing even a simple song. Faraz may be a good singer but not a consistent one. He makes you wanna sit on the seat edge uncomfortably because you never know when he will lose his sur or pitch. Zaheer’s best ever song was the hip hop number. His beat, attitude, rhythm and everything looked so contary to his conservative look. Vaishali I thought was good but very shrill and shreaky and didnt sound all that great. Consistent singers thus far have been kaushik, yashita, prathiba.Shashi is a classical singer but his saawarey song didnt do anything to me. He didnt come anywhere close to our amazing Mussarat
