Guests - Saturday 6th October the SaReGaMaPa set is going to witness another historical event. The celebrity guests on Saturday are the cast of the film “Dus Kahaniya” and in all 22 film personalities come to visit the sets. This will be for the fist time, that in any reality show, 22 film personalities will be making an appearance in a single episode. Dia Mirza, Dino Morea, Aftab Shivadasani, Neha Dhupia, Meghna Gulzar, Mika and many more will be present on the sets for the promotion of this film.

I am a regular audience of this show. I was voting for aneek till last week but I have finally realised that he is betraying his presence on the show just by singing sonu’s songs along with raja who is also singing more of sukhwinder singh or AR Rahman songs. But now I have set aside all my biased decisions and I request all the audience to vote for amanat for the reason that He is singing all kinds of songs especially “Mitwa”. I think this is the right time for him to sing outstanding songs which he hasn’t sung. Also I would like to see Aneek at N0.2 and Raja at No.3. I also request audience that voting is not controllable. But still these guys will be recognised in industry.

Literally driving down memory lane for me(albeit this would be around 80’s or so)
Mohd. Rafi in Malhar(or Monsoon) in Mumbay at Marine Drive = Music exponent 4 (or Music raise to 4).
Also, as we say in Mumbai majja raise to 4.
Actually for this song, Aneek might have been a better choice. He has the right timbre of voice and would be closest to Rafi (as compared to either Amanat or Raja).
Before folks flame me this is an impartial opinion with no subjective bias and no implications on who should win.

see while i am not sure amanat will do justice to the song, but so far he has been pretty spot on with every other song that i have hope… he hasnt screwed up ANY song , thus far to his credit
aneek would be good for this too. but the soul of the song would require a little more dum daar awaaz, aneek somehow hasnt cut it for me in rafi songs. its like sonu in his preteen years singing rafi, however the kid is spot on in technically.
this song requires a little more world wearniness, some sexiness, some thing intangible..

Seriously, Rafiji’s voice had a timbre which is closer to Aneek(and yes I agree despite some limitations Aneek is better technically than Raja except when it comes to classical singing or ghazal’s…but here Amanat has the home advantage. It’s similar to having a round on Rabindrosangeet - Aneek would beat everyone hands down ;)) than Amanat’s.

He can touch high note like yahoo chahe koi muze..
He can touch low note without music like.. Me yen sochker uske ghar se chala tha..

Mohammed Rafi died 25 years ago but his voice continues to charm listeners of another generation.
ENDURING APPEAL: Mohammed Rafi
Tum mujhe yun bhoola na paoge/jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere/sung sung tum bhi gun gunaoge.
(You will not be able to forget me/whenever you hear my song/you will sing along with me)
NOT one of Mohammed Rafi’s best songs, but it perhaps best expresses his enduring appeal. An appeal that continues 25 years after the man died on July 31, 1980.
Growing up in the 1970s with only a radio for entertainment, it was hard not to miss Rafi’s voice. As you begin to search the Rafi repertoire, it is hard not to be amazed by the singer’s range.
Versatile
Just two films give one an idea of his versatility. Naushad’s score for “Baiju Bawra” (1952) was strictly classical. The peppy Tu Ganga ki mauj was offset by the brooding Man tarpat. The breezily romantic Jhoole me pawan gave way to anguished O Duniya ke rakhwale.
Similarly in “Pyasa” (music by S.D. Burman), Rafi songs were all huge hits — from the comic Sar jo tera chakraye to that ode to a dysfunctional society Ye duniya agar mil bhi jaye; from love (Hum aap ki ankhon mein) to despair (Jinhe naaz hai hind par). As the mood changes from despair to anger in Ye duniya agar mil bhi jaye, the listener can’t help but be moved by the pain and tears in the singer’s voice.
It was S.D. Burman again who chose Rafi for the three crucial songs in “Guide” at a time when the Kishore Kumar wave was sweeping everyone off its path. Rafi got Tere mere sapne; Kya se kya ho gaya and Din dhal jaaye to Kishore’s one Gata rahe mera dil.
Shammi Kapoor’s image as the “Junglee”-”Jaanwar”-”Budtameez” of Hindi cinema owed its very existence to Rafi’s voice. Even while “yahooing” across the silver screen, melody was never very far away — Hum aur tum aur ye sama (”Dil Dekhe deko”); Is rang badalti duniya mein (”Rajkumar”).
Beginnings
Rafi was born in Kotla Sultansingh (now in Pakistan) and landed in Bombay via the Lahore film industry. After Partition, he stayed on in India convinced that his future was here. How right he was! In a few years his career had soared and he had sung for all the major heroes — and some not so major ones.
Whether it was Rajendra Kumar, Bharat Bhushan, Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Biswajeet to the latter day Jeetendra, Rajesh Khanna, and even Rishi Kapoor, all lip synced to Rafi’s voice.
Rafi’s love songs traversed the highs and lows of that fickle emotion — Suhani raat dhal chuki (”Dulari”); Akele hain chale ao (”Raaz”); Baharon phool barsao (”Suraj”); Ae husn zara jaag (”Mere Mehboob”); Jaag dil e deewana (Unche Log); Main yeh sochkar (”Haqeeqat”).
Some were absolute godsends to roadside Romeos all over the country — Chupnewale samne aa (”Tumsa Nahin Dekha”); Deewane ka naam to poocho (”An Evening in Paris”); Badan pe sitare (”Prince”), Lal chadi maidan khadi (”Janwar”).
It was Rafi who sang what is perhaps the least inoffensive of double entendres in Hindi film songs — Apni to har aah ek toofan hai (”Kala Bazaar”). Listen to the mischievous emphasis on “uparwala jaan kar anjaan hai” as a debonair Dev Anand serenaded Waheeda Rahman.
When he entered the field, singers like Talat Mehmood and Mukesh, though great in their own way, had been typecast. Along came Rafi who could sing at any pitch or mood that the composer wanted.
At the height of the Kishore wave, O.P. Nayyar is reputed to have said, “Just give me one song and I’ll put an end to this nonsense they’re saying about Rafi.” Listen to Tumse kahoon ek baat (”Dastak”) or the Tumhari zulf ke saye (”Naunihal”), Tum jo mil gaye ho (”Hanste Zakhm”) to understand the composer’s unshaken belief in the singer, though Madan Mohan tuned these songs. Rafi’s various songs for Nayar include the flirtatious Sun sun sun zalima (”Aar Paar”); Taarif karoon kya uski (”Kashmir ki Kali”); Aeji dil par hua aisa jadoo (”Mr. And Mrs. 55″); Aap ke haseen rukh par (”Baharen phir bhi ayengi”).
Many moods
Rafi’s voice evokes myriad emotions in the listener — Dekhi zamaane ki yaari (”Kagaz ke Phool”); Na kisi ki aankh ka noor hoon (”Lal Qila”); Duniya na bhaye (”Basant Bahar”) may leave you down in the dumps but Khoya khoya chand (”Kala Bazaar”); Jawaniyan ye (”Tumsa Nahin Dekha”) can lift the depression.
Feeling patriotic? Then listen to Ab tumhare hawale watan (”Haqeeqat”); Aye watan (”Shaheed”) or Jahan daal daal par (”Sikander-e-azam”). A philosophical mood pervades Man re tu kahe na (”Chitralekha”).
While Rafi is well known for his film songs, his non-film songs too are equally melodious. The best known are probably Paanv padu tore shyaam and Gazab kiya tere waade, but others like Shaam ke deepak jale; Do ghadi baitho and Kya yaad tumhe hum aayenge are as captivating.
Rafi would have been a great singer at any point of time but he was fortunate to enter Hindi films when music reigned supreme, when films ran on the strength of their music, when great composers and lyricists were falling over each other to make music

and technically he is v good, ergo the manna dey in the classical round
what he lacks to me in the non sonu nigam songs is that it sounds v high pitched one dimensional, he lacks the variation of the bass in the voice.. what do u think? there is something lacking that i cant quiet put my finger on , but the voice sounds too young to express the depth of emotions of the songs of rafi

I missed your other comment on Aneek.
Aneek used to have a good thehrav when he joined SRGMP. He has lost it in his anxiety to fit in and “belt out” numbers instead of singing. Blame this on HR. He is too hyper and sings too much in tivre (high/augmented notes) so when he tries kharaj it comes out as shuddh.
Unfortunately, In SRGMP everyone (except for Amanat) uptil now has tried to shout/shriek the higher notes in an effort to be popular…the idea being similar to rock songs, people think good singing is when the singer does cheekna/chillana as opposed to laikari and sur/harkats).
About the basso part, on occasions when Aneek (and in fact even Amanat) tries to render the lower octave, he/they go flat. The best example of Kharaj singing would be Pt. Jasraj himself or Jagjit Singhji’s ghazal’s. When these singers have to go to the higher notes and phekav(or throw) they control their vocal cords and voice box modulation as opposed to shouting…Which is why in my earlier notes I had said that Mussarat while good, needs to still learn a lot in this context. Although as i48999ji has said, Mussarat was stuck to the Qawwali/Pop fusion people are calling as Sufi singing nowadays (the actual sufi singing is something else, pls. explore with your exemplary search skills and you will discover some of the most melodious music under that genre)…
So Amanat is more patient and there fore has the thehrav (though he has very poor breath control). He also has a more mature voice, understands adaygi and harkats in the ghazal genre. Lastly, his talaffuz is obviously the best and therefore the last round was tailor made for him.
Although, as I was telling Rekha, I thought Poonam was pretty close to being the best, If not the best, in that round for me (again opinions may differ). Real unfair, what happened and everyone knows this for a fact.

about mussarat singing in high notes, i dont think it is cheekna chillana , it is very controlled and perfectly timed , his high notes..check out chal chal, when he sings “jaane ghazal,” it is perfecttly pitched.. and he has the ability to revert to normal notes and low notes almost instantaenously, i wld say his high, low and medium notes are all spot on

Hi all…..Please vote for Aneek Dhar. Do not vote for your own cast or relegion ignoring good singing. Raja is behaving like a showman more than a perfect singer and trying to sang different songs. He has tried to sang rafi’s songs this week and done a complete massaker. Amanat is good but he has some sort of mistakes but Aneek Dhar is just Outstanding and most near to the perfectness. Please vote for Aneek. He is really a good talent and would be a good singer or perhaps the geat singer in future. Today Raja is no one followed by Amanat and Aneek but time will tell different story when 13th october will come. Aneek will be at first at last and those who are doing injustice with him will be surprised and Spellbound. Keep the pasion and wait till Aneek’s Win. In the era of electronic based instruments were live musician’s trend is no where to be seen.. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa team is going to present us with a special episode on violin, guitar and Rythm based songs..
Adnan Sami is going to rock the stage with his thundering performance.. All the three mega finalists Raja Hasan, Aneek Dhar and Amanat Ali gave their best performance.. but the one who stole the limelight is Amanat Ali.. His singing style leaves everyone speechless on the sets..

Another fact i like about amanat is that he doesn’t sing much of such catchy and other typical filmy songs because he tries to explore and present the maximum of his talent then to just choose a simple song with minimum scope of error.

Amanat can sing well as he hits the right note at the right time, he is also versitile, but his voice itself is incredibly boring and will struggle to replace the voices of sonu, shaan, kk. Raja however wants to be versitile as he has attempted and after contest finishes will probably take training to improve his range. he has the oice of a legend and I can assure you all he will be one! amanath should only be a classical singer not pay back, he can sing classical and punjabi songs only, he struggles with western songs, did u here his accent when he sang the word in mitwa “find a way” ?

maybe you are accent comprehending is little deficient. Have you heard Aneek sing? All along he has picked easy songs. Not one hard song so far. I waited and waited for him to prove it but he failed. Last year ID won so this year it has to be either HR or VS. Most likely, it will be HR since he has been crying about it for the past one year that from somone from his ghrana will win. What a loser! ZeeTv will give it it him. So why are you so worried? It’s all politics. I can tell you that Aneek will not get any contract whatsoever just like last year winner. Give Aneek 5 more years before he makes it as a playback singer. Raja has a voice! His voice has deepness that people like hearing. So stop imposing your technically on others. You know better than the gurus who praised Amanat? Give me a break!

as far accent is concerned, hindi movie songs have more hindi words then english. Aneek has a big difficulty in pronouncing many of the very common hindi words, a vey simple example is the word ‘nahi’ which he pronounces as ‘nehi’ and there are many more more like this.
So, difficult in speaking ‘find a way’ is still acceptable but in speaking ‘nahi’ is not especially in hindi movies.

If you look at the list of songs sung by each 3 of them you will see that most variety of songs came from Amanat.
Highest one singer’s song came from Aneek; he sang 9 Sonu Nigam’s songs. Next is Raja; he sang 7 Sukhwinder’s song.

I can bet neither will be able to RAP in both the songs the way Aneek did……I having stayed in US for 8 years know how difficult is to get he rhythm and the pronunciations right in a RAP song…Amanat is good in softer songs but not this type of fusion or contemporary songs…
Also for those who think Aneek chose all easy songs….please explain me how in the world is ” Laaga Chunri mein Daag” an easy song to sing….
Also when one cites deepika padukone comments on Amanat being oneself while being close to the original……why do u neglect the comment on how Shekhar (who certainly has better music sense) said that Aneek was fabulous in laga chunri mein daag and sung it the way he wanted to sing and not copied anyone…
As far as the ghazal episode is concerened Aneek had to sing the song of some radio channel gave him and not his choice of sone…..anjali, by singing laga chunri mein daag he has proved he can sing the most difficult songs, which are based on indian classical music…

Everyone had there own style and fan followers. Everyone was successful in there own terms.
Here I am seeing the competition is going on like Raja�s fan will say can Aneek sing Piya Haji Ali or Aneek�s fan will say can Amanat sing RAP song or Amanat�s fan will say can Raja or Aneek sing Mitwa etc. They can not do that. They are different singers with different style. But have already proved enough to be successful in their life. Now who ever has the most fans will win.
Guys who are in USA already know if you can sell 1 million CD you are already a millionaire.

I seem to have missed another comment from you. I am as unschooled as the next lay person on HCM (as I say not even a novice, below that). Just a very active interest and autodidactic/experiential(as opposed to pedantic).
Ok, first of all Thehrav, a song/composition has various basic elements to it as follows - swar(or the corrupted word sur)/notes, laya/flow or tempo, tal/beats and the harkat’s/emotion. When a novice singer tries to sing a song he usually will rush some parts, some words will overlap and especially where he has to put in emotions or harkats(a long taan for example) he will be out of synch. This is easily discernible in a lot of performances. If you listen to an expert singer he seems to be almost doing poetry recitation, the amount of time he has. On the other hand as I said before, novice singers will try to rush which is easily made out in Aneek’s case who seems to be in a hurry to finish the song.
In Amanaat’s case, when he tries to sing with thehrav since thehrav requires holding breath while doing vocal modulations, he goes out of breath. If you see his video’s in the last round like the ghazal round you will notice this.
Of all the contestants though, since he comes from patiala gharana+has ID for guru he is the only one who sings technically correct and which is why you saw the comments from Pt. Jasraj and Jagjit Singhji. Is he ready for “good” singing ? IMHO he still needs to do riyaaz for 2-3 years.
I think you are a fan of Mussarat :), so maybe I should not comment further. This song chal chal is a mix of Ahir-Bhairav(the same, which forms the base for poocho na kaise from last night) and puriya dhanashree. If you listen to the mukhda in this clip and compare it with the clip by Sukhwinder, you will notice two things immediately -
1> Mussarat’s voice quavers on the notes…shows his lack of training and the fact that he is struggling to render the pitch of the note while maintaining the sargam.
2> Listen a bit carefully to the pitch of the note in the initial sargam. You will notice in Sukhwinder’s voice, modulation, ranging from shuddh(normal) to komal(basso or low notes). Actually Sukhwinder’s voice is a natural baritone but he manages the modulation very well. Mussarat’s voice is flat/shuddh and follows the sargam without the pitch…just to illustrate…
Of course you are comparing a very high quality singer to someone who has just started his career. Pls. don’t come after me with a gun
I have eclectic tastes in music and used to be quite a metal head(still listen to a lot of heavy rock). In the western music world vocal ranges are classified and a lot of rock singers would fall in the category of countertenor or the capability to sing soprano (they have different genres and different vocal ranges such as basso profundo to basso or baritone/bass-baritone, tenor etc…). They also switch to falsetto as compared to their normal voices during a performance, its a natural gift and they can hit very high notes without losing clarity…I used to be(still am) a fan of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, GnR, Jimi Hendrix and quite a few groups…in the Ballad Genre Bob Seger(Silver Bullet Band) rules according to me :)…Long Live Classic Rock!!

Poonam’s Kuhu Kuhu Bole Koyaliya was easily among the best and comparable to Musarrat’s best. Both her singing and on-stage presence were phenomenal. She seemed completely at ease. Yet when it ended, there was no standing ovation, and only a cursory, it was good, etc., etc. I must confess to not knowing hindi and relying on the reviews at this site. Even ID did not go to the stage in support of Poonam as he did so readily for Amanat and others on many occasions. There was over all a lukewarm reaction. I can put this down only to sexism and devaluing of individuals lacking “glamor”. After all bollywood runs on glamor & hype.
I wish the best for Poonam and hope she takes up classical music as suggested by Panditji.

It’s fundamentally unfair to compare live performance to a studio recording where they can record over and clean up unsavory bits, etc.
Add to that the lack of experience.
It’s amazing that these “kids” are coached to sing in different styles in such a short time. They haven’t had the opportunity to evolve.

I agree with you. One can do magic in the studio nowadays. Anyone can be made to sound good but you cannot do the same live…If somebody is excellent they can be made to sound sublime in the studio.
But if people do not use the right note(sur), the right pitch or the laya etc…it shows. I am not saying they are good or bad etc…I am merely pointing out some nuances to a friend…

i totally agree with u. aaj toh pura show mard aur aurat ki baat kar raha tha. i dont know why he is allowed to talk when it is singing contest. i was surprised the way they attacked raja when VS were not there. when later shekar asked raja ki dhant padi hai did u guys see himesh face. i think at this stage they need to encourage all the three than scold them.
let all of us support all the 3 singers who are gud in their own way. vote for whom u like. but dont attack singers. they are just doing what they know best. lets support them and not act as cheap as the judges.

When raja was singing, after that himesh said that he needs to improve on how to finish words or the antara’s properly…and same thing when amant made mistake and Ismailji was bit upset then he supported amant. I don’t think so that is correct. I think he is not happy that raja is on top he is worried about aneek. I think he is just showing off that he is supporting all contestants, but he does not mean it. I find him very artificial. Thank you all for all the knowledge you share here in this forum. Main to aap sabka fan ho gaya. I am a regular visitor of Non Srgmp as well as this site. During my boring and long office hours I read the posts of all the people here and listen those beautiful songs referred in non srgmp blog. Yes I do that in office [;)], Right now I am listening to Ustad Amir Khan sahib ka gaya hua Raag Darbari Kanada, drut, teental from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psAnCGoEQ8o and writing this post..[:)] . Envy me…as I can do that in office…
I have nor written any post here,, bahut dar lagta hain. aap sabke samne muh khole na gustaki nahin karna chahata hun..mujhe music ka samajh bahut kam hain, music sunna bahut pasand hain. magar main music ko music ka tarah sunta hun.. raag ka samajh nahin hain mujhe..[:(].. Aaj itna din baad sahash aya hain thoda to $0.02Worth ji ke list main kuch add karne ka gustaki dikha sakta hun.. You have asked for our choices..:) well mine are here

Whenever I listen to these songs I can visualize those songs.. There are many more. But right now I can remember these..
This is a sunday here and I am in office.. manager is calling from home and asking for some crap reports..[:(]
I don’t know why engineers has to report to managers(non technical). They don’t understand a thing in technical and asks for things that makes me crazy.. Arrrrghh…Why why why?? OOps sorry if any of you are managers.. Need to listen to some soothing songs, otherwise I will break something..

hey ppl!! im frm the UK and after watching last nytz show, amanat blew me away with his final performance of the evening!!! based on this performance and taking into account his former performances, which show his versatility, he truely deserves to be the winner!!! so come on ppl pick up your phones and vote for amanat!!

aneek, even if you don’t win, you are still the best. his sur and taal are excellent. others still need to work hard to get to his level. they can only sing some songs, most songs they are out of tune.
Only Aneek is consistent.

i know that raja is goning to be the winner, but that will be baised and unfair decision of public. raja always sang the songs which suit on him, but amanat is really extraordinary, he is beyond the limit, dont compare him with raja, if raja is good, then i must say amanat is very very good. and aneek he is exception, at his age, i used to believe that noone can sing as he is singing, i am puzlled, he is genious at his age. so winner should be Amanat, not raja and aneek. If raja wins, that will happen only when public give baised decision.
