Poonam Yadav adopted a girl – A Ma-gnificent step!
Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 contestant Poonam Yadav has an adopted daughter, aged six. Twenty six-year-old Poonam is a single mother…Thanks to Sushmita Sen and her daughter Renee, single motherhood is catching on. Poonam Yadav is no style diva but an ordinary girl from Lucknow who has taken the step of adopting a girl.
A source from the production house reveals that Poonam is only 26 years and belongs to a lower middle-class family. “As she is a contestant on the show, the channel wanted her mother to be present too. When they talked to Poonam Yadav with daughter Simran her mother in Lucknow over the phone to invite her, she asked if she could bring Poonam’s adopted daughter, Simran, as well. Needless to say, the channel was stunned with the revelation.”
Poonam’s father died before she was born. Her mother worked as a housemaid and also sold roasted corn on the streets of Lucknow. To make ends meet, Poonam managed to pass standard 12 and also worked in a PCO for Rs. 600 a month.
Her daughter Simran was just two when her biological mother abandoned her, four years ago. Poonam lived in the same neighbourhood and needless to say could not tolerate the apathy towards the girl child and took her home. Her mother was obviously stunned, but Poonam stood by her decision. Gradually, her mother also supported her cause and the little girl became a part of their family.
When contacted, Poonam said, “I adopted her because I didn’t want her to undergo the same difficulties as me. I still had shelter, she was abandoned. I feel that if every family adopts an orphan, no child will be without shelter. With my kind of income, if I can gather the courage to take this initiative, I think anyone can do it. We just need the determination to do it.”
Payaol Patel, the creative head of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa confirmed the news. She said, “We were actually stunned when we heard about Poonam. When our team went to her house in Lucknow, they found that she lived in a very small house and she belongs to a lower middle-class family. Hats off to her, she has the guts to adopt a daughter. More so because she belongs to a poor family and being a single mother in a state like Lucknow is a laudable feat.”

Voting for the last week’s performance takes place till midnight Sunday(last). New episode is recorded on Monday or Tuesday and presented on Friday. That’s what my understanding is. I may be wrong. But Looking at what’s happening, I doubt everything.

We had become Poonam’s fans because of her talent and her down to earth behaviour on the show. Sincerely, she is altogether away from those naaz-nakhre, which young girls of today, are proud of.
The fact of Poonam having adopted a girl, has realy filled my heart with more love and respect for her. It shows, how much this girl has suffered because of losing her father even before her birth. It is this feeling of empathy towards that abondoned girl, which moved Poonam and made her adopt this girl.
She is truly courageous to do this in a country like India, where single mothers are not treated at par with other parents. She has become the role model of the Indian girl. Hats off to Poonam!

Saregamapa title looked very small for poonam when I read this article. Poonam is the most beautiful person with an amazing personality.
Keeping this aside; I always felt that she is a very good singer. But I knew that the dumb headed judges would never give that kind of hype or appreciation for her to win the show. And coming to the point where they can give her a chance to sing in there compositions I don’t think the great dumb so called gurus can make a composition which can take her to places. And keeping poonams voice texture in mind she needs a composition which has lot of depth. And I am sure non of the all four great gurus can give her such kind of break. All I wish is A. R. Rahman or Vishal bhardwaj to give her a chance so that she can prove her self and take her to greater heights.
And all the time the stupied Himesh keep commenting on her personal life rather than talking about her singing. And after reading the article abt poonam its better Himesh understand that he is not even worth talking abt poonam and if at all he talkes he just looks like a piece of shit.
And shames upon ismail darbar that he never encouraged and never thought that poonam deserve to win the contest.
And I don’t think we need to talk about pappi lahari (bappi lahari). He is one good for nothing judge. Who has lot of identity issues.
Coming to vishal and shaker I thought they were little professional in the attitude. But even they never thought that she could be the winner.

I apologize if my comments been harsh in such a way that you may have perceived that they are directed at you. People had never been my target but ideas are. I am protesting the dishonesty not Aneek or anyone within the defined parameters of Saregamapa. I never disputed Aneek being a good singer. However, if we introduce a variable of comparision within last top 6 and look for someone unique, not at indian but at global level, then the standards becomes different in persuit of a very exclussive and unique voice. And that is what the basis of comparision I suppose is required for which verstality may or may not be the only criteria BUT uniqueness/exclussivenes should be. Then one can see clearly see who is that person. And that’s why I still felt it was unjust to let Poonam go while she so far scored perfect marks.

Poonam was better than anyone. I don’t think it was right by elimiting her. I think that one of the guys should have gone, not Poonam.
don’t the mentors have a veto card left. They should use it on her.
The show is no longer a challenge as they have lost the best contestant. I really respect this girl for her simplicity and the good deed she has done.

Her elimination from the contest is unfortunate, but that is not going to hamper her progress apace on the path she is destined to tread. Ousting of Poonam
It was quite sad for the ardent followers of srgmp to see first mussarrat and then poonam quit the show (no hard feelings for the 3 finalists though). Its a very sad affair that the lives and the careers of such bright and excellent singers like Mussarat and Poonam are left at the mercy of few votes. I have just one question what next for these talented singers ?????!!!!!! Are they going to be again lost in the annonimity of the common man’s crowd, after their whirlwind success, or is our music industry going to take them ahead henceforth in their careers. The question is specially for Mr. Ismail Darbar (mentor of poonam) and the duo of Mr. Vishal and Shekhar whom I consider in high esteem and responsible and sensible judges of the lot. As a representative of the music listenrs of the country I think we all would love to and are eager to hear (read sing) more of them (no awards for guessing that they are popular with the indian crowd and the songs sung by them will be chart buster songs. I hope all the esteemed judges that have been on the show will not just stop short of praising the singers (which they have done ample no. of times) but do something for them to establish them as mainstream singers.
No doubt Poonam is best and will be best..same like Himani in 2005 competition….
Guys.. just a question from you how many of you voted for her with full hearts.. when the voting is totally on public… how many of you.. why she was lacking of 24k votes…

Its not the matter of voting for Poonam, I myself voted 100 times on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and early Monday, each. I have read on other forums from her fans abroad they voted over 100 times each, and here we are not talking about a few individuals, but several families. I have also read about one person who instructed his entire office staff to vote for Poonam. Its just that Zee people manipulated the result, and all the votes meant for Poonam were counted either in favor of Aneek or someone else. Poonam could never have gone out, had Zee people played fair and square. They were more concerned about keeping all the three gurus on stage, and Poonam was made the scapegoat. Also don’t forget the shear betrayal on part of Ismail Darbar who ditched Poonam for Amanat, and Himesh who time and again pressurised Poonam by relating her story. HR and ID connived in full cooperation with Zee people to oust Poonam. I have decided not to watch any more rounds of SRGMP from now on. It was such a tear jerking scene when at the end Poonam asked everyone present to give her a Guru, as she wanted to work hard in the Industry, but none of them took pity on her. This made Pandit Jasraj to tell her that she was born to sing Shastriy Sangeet. But the final decision is hers.

Please leave this poor Aneek guy alone.Uske peeche kyon par gaye ho bhai ? He is the youngest and one of the most talented of all, if not ‘ONLY’. He has already got Reshamiya to make his life miserable on screen.
Said that, Raja doesn’t do his Riyaaz properly…you can hear it in his voice..he sings well..but he is not working hard. Amanat is flawless. Awesome.His velvety voice takes a music lover to a different world.
The competition should have been b/w Aneek, Poonam and Amanat…the winner should have been Poonam….for all best reasons. I guess life doesn’t work that way. This is not the first instance of injustice. We being a tolerant country…we do prove ourselves quite well.

the best so called “Gazal singer” does not fit the criteria of being the NO1. As the Bollywood music industry is looking for diversity in singers for a more modern type of sound then Gazals. It’s the truth. How many bollwood movies comming out now have Gazals ?..not many [My point exactly :-0 ]
Anyway to round up Amanat is an excellent singer !!
Aneek is also an excellent singer !!
Poonam is also an excellent singer !!
I think the person who shoule be no1, is that person who can diversify into many different styles of music. Not sticking to a single “Sound.
It would be a close call bt when it comes to diversity I think Aneek comes out on top.
HR is full of crap but Aneek is an excellent singer..so lets give credit where credit is due.

I just wish HR was not his guru, he is putting up with a lot of image tarnishing from him. HR is advertising himself rather than motivating his chela.Have you seen how much he talks ? Jeez !!

You have not copied voice, you are original and you have monitored your voice for every nuance. I wish you become rich by your voice. Your voice is your wealth and take care of it. After hearing the classical side of yours, I believe you should do classical singing because it matches your personality. Pt. JAsraj was right in commenting about it.
