Non-srgmp music discussions
Ok…First I have to admit that ‘The Readers of This Site’ are truly music lovers…Lately there was a discussion about the unheard but Truly deserving songs…There are so many songs with which we are not too familiar but they are just too good to listen.
Today Senty requested me to start a new thread for these songs (so that we can track these songs easily). Many readers of this site have already posted their list in their comments. For me it’s very hard to go through all the comments and reposted them here. So I just request all of you to post your songs list on this thread..

I think this is a serate link called non-saregamapa
Please read as “separate” instead of serate.. sorry for the typing error(which I always do ha ha )
@Dockaul ji,
You have done a great job in moving the entire postings on this subject to this link.
I would like to suggest the following songs for the list:
1. Yeh zindagi usi ki hai, jo kisi ka ho gaya, pyaar hi main kho gaya.
Lata Mangeshkar/C.Ramchandra/Rajendra Krishna/Anaarkali/1953
2. Beeti na bitayi raina, birha ki jaayi raina.
Lata Mangeshkar-Bhupendra/R.D.Burman/Gulzar/Parichay/1972
3. Aaj socha to aansoo bhar aaye, muddaten ho gain muskuraye.
Lata Mangeshkar/Madan Mohan/Kaifi Aazmi/Hanste Zakhm/1973

Today Amanat brought back memories of “Masoom” which starred the cute Jugal Hansraj as the little guy.
Here is Anoop Ghosal’s version of the same song :

And the LataM version :

My most fav song of Masoom is Aarti Mukherjee’s “Do naina aur ik kahani”.

Wow.. this movie was such a tear jerker. Never fails to move me every time I watch it !

Context: This post includes response to the other earlier post where we started this exercise.
Dear Mehfilji:
Aap ne gaaribnawaz ko yaad kiya, aur hum khidmat ke liye haazir hue to aap hi lapata ho gaye!!!
Bhai, koi khata hui hamse ?
Dear Sentyji:
Hum log to shuruwat bhi nahin kar pai aur aap ne “danke” bajana shuru kar diya
The other baat is ye jamana hi virtual ho raha, to aage chal ke dosti/yaari bhi virtual honi hai…all your ideas sound wonderful to me and about the blog –Sentyji aap sangharsh karo hum log tumhare saath hai
Seriously, I have never written for blogs before. I started with this and now will also pen something on Humara Forums…I think these places allow everyone to speak from their soul(due to the anonymity factor) and if souls resonate with others to bhai wah…(wah taj !!! as ustadji would say..), I think I have also made some amazing friends here. All your choices are on the dot. Love all of them… If you selected these very casually, you must be some connoisseur!!
Thank you for your contributions.
Dear Sweetyji:
You really are as sweet as you name, maybe much much more …:)
Aap itna sharminda kar rahe ho, mujhe samajh nahin aa raha ki mein kya kahun.
I am glad that my incoherent mumblings have made any sense to you.
This song, especially with my interest in spirituality is one of my favorites. Thanks a bunch!!
Let me thank you this once
Dear Sumitroji:
Fabulous!! Are you associated with ITCSRA ? Spot on and all excellent choices..
Doing this kind of work is more a labor of heart. I wanted to take sanyas from this blog to focus more on Indian Classical Music which is my first love, but this is going to be good. I can feel it
Dear Dockaulji:
Sirji, I was going to skip replying to your post above. However, sociology has been an interest of mine and this form of fractal growth and leadership is extremely interesting!!
I am in awe of your organizational skills and the amount of passion you bring to this forum and eSnips. However before you form opinions, pls. read my earlier post above, the intention was to always move this to non-SRGMP at some point after we ascertained the response to this idea.
Having said that, my assumptions are –
1> This site was formed for the sake of discussions on SRGMP and music in general(I would assume this because all the folks here should be music lovers and the site is the most laissez faire site I have seen with no guidelines on what should be posted and what can be deferred. Also, there are no guidelines on categorization and lumping of posts).
2> As you can see all the people who have chosen to participate in this effort have restricted themselves to a thread which is defunct and have not inundated the active threads with these song lists (as you can see the participants in those threads do not feel burdened with this sense of deference for others and choose to be all over the place). At the same time all of the regulars have liked this initiative and think its worth pursuing.
I do not get into these kind of arguments, because I do not see any merit or profit from them. However, I did have a look at your posts and took exception to words like “rebuke” (reminds me of Miss D’Sa from my kindergarten) and irritated(what have I or the other’s done so wrong for you to be so irritated?).
Sir, everyone here is participating because they want to…there is no compulsion or profit in participating here…pls. suggest your idea’s, pls. do not push and lastly pls. do not use words like rebuke or how irritated you are. It’s not nice.
Thanks!

@0.02 Worth ji,
This discussion you started is taking a very interesting turn. At this juncture, I have a suggestion. Let everybody on this forum (of course, its optional) prepare song lists comprising of five songs each, and the the categories of the lists must be decided by you, as this was basically your idea. And after you have collected the lists posted by all the memebers, just make a choice of 10 or may be 15 songs in every category. I’m sure the final list prepared in this way will have all the gems of songs of our music industry.
I don’t know how you like the suggestion, but I think this is a good musical exercise for our thoughts.
I thank you for providing such good information on music.
Regards,
SWEETY
Again all music lovers of this forum..
Yahan post karne ka gustakhi dikhane ke liye maaf chahata hun. Mujhe ye gaane bahut achhe lage, is liye socha aaplogon se bhi share kar lun.. Again same request please don’t flame me. Cause though you guys don’t know me, but I have followed this site for long and made a connection with you all. Jab aapno se gaaliyan milta hain to bahut dukh hota hain na,, is liye.. No flamming.. Keeping my fingers crossed..
Dear Sweetyji and All:
Essentially, from ancient times, our music heritage chose to classify melodies by Season, time of the day/night and rasa.
The idea being to cover major occasions in a person’s lifecycle (So the yearly cycle, their would be special one for marriages and some other important occasions). They knew that like a raga or a composition with ascending and descending notes, variations etc in some ways they were emulating life itself (life has a similar waveform up’s/down’s and so on). The purpose of matching to life is that proper music played at the proper time can resonate and move the persons to depths they have never experienced before.
But, we will keep it intuitive here and not get into technical details.
I have created an esnips a/c and will be uploading a list of suggestions till date.
A lot of songs reminded me of bhule-bisre geet from AIR (I think). A lot of the others reminded me of the 11:00 pm Vividh Bharti’s Binaca/Cibaca Geet Mala…I made the list and spent the whole day listening to these on esnips/youtube so now I have another list of these songs on esnips which I will upload too
About creation of playlists –
1> Let’s create one according to time of day (so we can start with morning’s / evening’s / nighttime ….most folk do not listen to music in afternoons..so let’s leave that out for now.
2> Different types of moods – in our nava rasa theory one can have the following moods (the one’s with X’s are the one’s we can ignore for now):-
Sringar (love or erotic: most exploited rasa in Bollywood!!)
Longing/Anticipation
WistfulNostalgic
Actual Meeting and the emotions associated with that.
XXXHasya (Comic)XXXX
Karunam (Pathetic or Kindly) ??
XXXRaudram (Anger)XXXX
XXX Viryam (Bravery) XXX
XXX Bhayanak (Terrible) XXXX
XXXX Bibhatsa (Disgust) XXXX
Adbhutam (Marevellous)
Shantam (tranquillity)
3>When we create the actual playlist let’s make it like a composition…start with some slow numbers…increase to fast numbers ….change mood etc…wound with some slow songs to shift moods..
It’s not going to be easy. But the rewards are we will get a better appreciation of music composition (and let’s collect all the trivia we can such as lyrics, music direction, actor, singer etc…)
and at the same time will get playlists (around 45 mins to 1 hours worth) of music which will resonate and make you feel to you innermost depths/soul.
These are the things I think are important in this exercise. I am throwing the floor open for discussions on this. Meanwhile, I will post the link here once I have uploaded the list to esnips.

Dear 0.02 worth ji(you worth much more)
Thank you for those songs I really enjoyed both.
Hoton pe yesi baat mein …wow thats great…I have seen this movie …I don’t know how many times…I can watch even more…
The marathi one…mi raat takli…. it seems to me I have heard the same song in some other language too….probably the music was given by Salil Choudhury. Too good.
Chalat musafir is my all time favourite…it was difficult for me to sit in the chair and hear the music…oh no…don’t mind… I started dancing too… This song has influence of the state Bihar… I think most of the folk songs of Bollywood has taken the flavour of Bihar…that is good. We also see that Bihari folk song is also got popular as chaney music in Trinidad and Guyana…Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thank you once again.
Indrani
Dear Sajalji:
Stopped by for a minute in a maddening Sunday afternoon and saw your suggestion.
I of course know of Us. Rashid Khan the torchbearer of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. What a magnificent performance and Bilaskhani Todi in 2 parts!! I will definitely listen to this in the morning before sunrise for the magic
Rashid Sb. was also associated with ITC Sangeet Research Academy for a very long time and Kishoriray the german lady (with an Indian name) who has put up those videos in youtube is also currently associated with ITCSRA…
Good show pls. post more of the same.
Thanks again.

Dear Indraniji:
Actually we hail originally from UP. A lot of bonded labor from UP/Bihar were shipped to Trinidad, Guyana and even places like Mauritius. I was once in Mauritius and the cab driver was whistling the exact same song(chalat musafir..)!!
Mi raat takli is not exactly folk music, it was composed by Hridaynath Mangeshkar I think. In the side pane (In youtube) you will find another song…Jambul piklya which is also a fantastic song!! The movie was fantastic and women libbers will love it

@$0.02Worth ji,
Thank you very much. I will surely look for such videos.
For all those music lovers out there.

I didn’t understand a single word, but the music is really haunting(at least to me). A TV serial was there in Star World, “Xena – Warrior Princess”. Theme music of that serial was also very haunting. Can anyone give me links to that? Senty gr8 job, already bookmarked your site. Don’t know how much I can add there as my music knowledge is very small, but surely I will be there..keep up the good work..
@Sajal
Not to worry, me too know very little.. I am actually looking forward to learning from all you guys….
I too liked the “Xena” music
And thanks for this link.. I too listen to a lot of weird music that I dont understand !
- Senty
So does anyone think Amanat topped Mussarat’s Sanware from performance perspective? I say he equaled it.
@ Sajal– Welcome! Did is not da forum for flammers as feared by u.. all suggestions ,discussions song links are most welcome..
@i48998
NO way!!!At the risk of antagonizing many I draw your attention to check the original renditions of the 2 songs in question.. Mussarat’s Saanwre is infinitely better because of the completely different self designed presentation of the same.. Amanat sang the song brilliantly but jaisa guru log kahte hain Unhone bahut bhadiya NIBHAYA.. banaya nahin…
That unique composition will always put Mussart’s rendition of Saanwre on top of my list of the greatest performances of SRGMP 2007
Dear Sajalji:
Arre aap to bade chupe rustom nikale!!
You send across one of the finest examples I have seen of nom-tom/jugalbandi between bag-pipes and a human and call it weird music
Her vocal range and registers are off the scale !! Plus I really enjoyed the sawal-jawab kind of play between the bag-pipes and the singer.
Looks like this piece was sent in voyager 1 and 2 to other civilizations. They would also not understand the words to understand the complex interplay of frequencies to convey a signal form which is at once harmonious and melodic. This would have the desired effect of dragging them down to investigate, like I did
The link below talks about the gaida and turkish influence(which was responsible for the tabla in India), which explained the nom-tom to me….
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Bulgaria
I have heard this clip 4 times now, I am sure I will hear it many times more
BTW, Xena was Celtic music wasn’t it ? So similar sounding but the registers and melodic phrases would be different ?
Thanks.

Sorry for Posting again but this requires special attention and is really urgent.
Dear Shashi,
hi! i am writting to u in desparation.I talked to poonam several times,she is a very good soul , humble person & also naive to the extent of not knowing how to open bank account!I tried to call ismailji(?,do i have to call him that respectfully?,big question!) a zillion times! i listened to cool english pop hundered times as his ringtone! finally,mercifully he answered my call! i asked very politely to him what can i do to help poonam & the dude answers,”Dua karo!” How cool!I almost went into trance! I composed myself & told him that only dua doesn’t help in this world,we need to take some positive action! After listening to me ,he was in rush to hang up on me by telling that he is with his doctor(or physician?)& he will let me know.I waited patiently for couple of hours,forgetting my sleep(taking into consideraton time differance ).& sent him 5 sms but he didn’t respond!
So i am sending u a petition for Zee(which i already did,wrote to Mr.kaul & Ms patel,but didn’t get any reply ).I feel u have better power over them so pls forward it to them.The regular forum members whoever wants to sign will sign but i do not want to delay as grand finale is on oct,13th.i am sending a separate message to that effect.pls put it on our forum!Thanx,i trust u !
*******************
Shashi,pls put this petition online for zee& Poonam’s fan’s to sign!we have very little time!
Dear zee,
By now Poonam yadav has been declared as the best female singer on saregama 2007! I feel that her elimination was unjust! She should have been in the finals as she is the most versatile singer on saregama! Her singing is soulful & divine! She can sing melodious, classical, as well as masti) songs! According to many of us on this forum, she is the most powerful voice on saregama! Even pundit jasraj complemented her classical singing ability! But unfortunately she is the most underrated performer! None of the guru’s took a special note of her, except HR, who emphasized on her poor background & damaged her rather than appreciating her singing talent & helping her!In her elemination episode,she requested all mahaguru;s to help her in her singing career or help her find her a guru but no one came forward! i am totally disappointed by ID,VS & HR.
By just declaring her as the best female singer of saregama won’t help! We would like Zee to award her as the best female singer of saregama & award singing contracts along with some cash prize to her! Sincerely she deserves it! Many of us, her ardent fans r trying to raise some funds for her! Pls do something for Poonam & don’t let her go back to Lucknow into oblivion! Pls. support her stay in Bombay till she establishes herself as a playback singer in bollywood or help her to find a Guru to pursue great heights in classical singing. This is a sincere request from Poonam’s fan club!
Al the Poonam fans you are requested to kindly second and support this effort. This is a special request to all of you from Basumatikaji. We request your kind co-operation. Thanks
dockaul, you’re right, I forgot that point about Mussarat ‘making’ the Sanware.
BTW, who is betting on Aneek loosing lots and lots of votes to Amanat now? Though Amanat’s last song made me forget rest of the other songs in the last two episode but Aneek’s Dard-e dil still makes me think that he wrecked that whole song with his jumping rendition. He messed up Dard-e dil big time.
@ senty
loved your under construction blog spot
but i think we will be better served as a musical comminuty if we have a fully finctional message board
i run such a forum for movies..( am movie and music maniac), it is run on phpbb system, isnt hard to administer at all and relatively cheap( 69$ a year), i am more than willing to invest in getting s board, but to me its critical to have organised threads for different genres of music as suggested by 0.02..i find the blog format disorganied and cumbersome for any meaninngful exchange of ideas
if you are a techy and willing to take initiative i can pay for getting the website and you can do teh administering.. lemme know// i
Pyaare Bandhuo Aur Bhaginio (Dear Brothers and Sisters):
Ji, I have uploaded the lists and download links to the following link -
http://www.esnips.com/web/SRGMPForumMoods
I took some time due to accomplish this major task due to two reasons -
) So I finally uploaded text files.
1>Upload word/xls files leaves you open to exposure via Files-Properties tab, and, I am not ready to expose myself yet (In terms of my identity
2> Sajalji the new member has very SURREPTIOUSLY given us all a link of the Bulgarian Idol Winner who has sung a song which has been uploaded as gold CD’s to space via voyager1&2 to reach out to alien civilizations (the root word being civil, pls. note). This clip is so captivating that I have watched it at least 10 times if not more(been stealing time away from work to listen to this clip, so if I lose my job its Sajal’s fault). The lady is still raw in her vocal control but her range is out of the world, voice modulation and matching frequencies with the bagpipe player including creating resonance and singing on the feedback loop of her own voice…all kinds of magic here….
There is a lot of hype about her, similar to what we see with Amanat and other in SRGMP. But the truth is that she has a natural raw talent(her vocal range) and this will develop with time to make her a legend (I seriously think so).
The other important thing for me was that she actually won the contest!! A lady wins the singing contest because she is v. talented, how good is that ??!!!

dear sajal
welcome to the forum
main forum main to mahayudh ho raha hai, lots of bhaavuk people and i even read the dreaded phrase “pseudosecularism” uttered by some retarded creep called dipanker,, i thought that phrase had become extinct with the downfall of the “hindutva” ideology, lekin nahin we still have some dinosaurs of that era present on this forum
sheesh nehow, aise logon ke kya muh lagna
i havent caught up with all you guys efforts
but i am just presenting one my favorite yesudas tunes from Big B’s most touching and underrated movie called “alaap”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqp8opl-mIs
this song is v close to me because one of my relatives was closely involved with this song

ps- who can ID the raga on this?
@anon
Thanks for the encouraging words about my baby blog. Yeah, I would love to participate in a msg board.
Its tempting to jump at the idea of working on a proper website.. but I wish I could commit the time for that. I might have to think about it yaar. I’m not into webbased stuff at work.. so thoda idhar udhar se seekhna bhi padega.
But lets keep the thought.
For now, the blog I have has just the main categories we’ve been having in this thread – film songs, classical, poetry etc. Very similar to this forum, but a page for each.
Pls keep the suggestions and comments comming.. I’ll try to restructure the blog as needed.
btw which is your movie forum? I would love to visit that.

Dear Anonji:
Sajalji has suggested an “*xillint link”, pls. have a look (it might help from a catharsis point of view
)…
http://youtube.com/watch?v=a3suy4Wj9SA
The beauty in this clip is that along with the high notes, the vocal modulations, the scale and doing jugalbandhi with the bagpipes….The song must be an extremely moving one. The lady’s eyes start watering the minute she hits the first high note…but without wavering she sings the whole song…tears rolling down her cheeks and does a splendid job I must say
Its simply a moving/sublime experience…
About the blog, I would say pls. do not spend money at the outset. Let’s create a pilot, see the interest and then invest.
About the song, Chand Akela, its in Raga Desh….one of my all time favorite songs….Phir Kahi Koi Phool Khila (Manna Dey) is also in the same raga.

I am unable to comment on the songs above, the sense and sensation they generate in me are too much and too complex for me to analyse.
These and other thousands of pieces of music of similar profoundity of any genre mean heaven to an agnostic (verging on atheist) person like me!
~Sumitr~
PS: By “any genre” I do not mean any song or piece of music indiscriminately, in fact I am quite fastidious about quality of music.
But somehow I can appreciate a wide range and variety of music.
And as to — “Fabulous!! Are you associated with ITCSRA?” — Never in my life even for a second have I taken any formal training or been associated with any musical organization/academy. Just have to depend on my ears and heart.
PPS: I could not respond to your last post to me (in the “review of 5 oct. epsd” forum) owing to some severe power failure and internet connection problems here for the better part of the last two days, now I feel it’s too late for that.
I checked out rajshri.com mentioned by SheelKS in a post some posts above about Pt.Jasraj concerts… i stumbled upon this song from Mahesh Bhatt’s “Saraansh”. I think it was Anupam Kher’s first movie.. I am not sure. Havent heard this song “ever* again after watching the movie *once* on DD eons ago.

Aur aap kaise hain? I hope your “majburiyan” are behind you or will be soon.
I have a severe handicap in not being a Bangla Bhashi and therefore not understanding the lyrics. But the one thing these songs shout is SOUL…they sound extremely spiritual…I will try and hunt out lyrics for these to better appreciate.
Its about 12:00 am EST here and these sound divine to me right now..I will listen till I fall asleep and give you a detailed response on these later.
However, thanks for doing this. I really appreciate this and will hopefully be able to do likewise in future.
Shubh Ratri (as the compere used to say at 2:00 or 3:00 am on AIR).
Hope Mehfilji also joins us here soon with his music links.

I have downloaded the songs and am listening to them. Hemantda’s hindi songs also used to be fantastic…
Still trying to unravel the code.
But I liked them very much. Thanks!!
Dear Sentyji:
I watched Saraansh at least 3 times , when it was still doing the Cinema circuit and multiple times after that. It was Anupamji’s debut and the movie was class apart.
Those days I thought Anupmanji would go on to shake Bollywood and provide many years of fantastic histrionics. A bit disappointed with what he chose to do…
Loved this song.

I have seen it just *once* in my life and I remember most of the scenes and the two songs.. the other was by Bhupinder that goes “Andhiyara ghir aaya, soonapan ..” something…. I can recollect the tune, the situation in the movie etc, but not the words..

Bulgarian music collection(incredibly Gold collection) ::http://youtube.com/watch?v=fBd8qpi9lz8
By the way all of the above are penned by Gulzar and uploaded to esnips by Surel Gaani.Very good collection.
I also liked saransh very much.Could not believe that Anoopam Kher was only in thirties/forties(could not remember the correct one). He is such a powerful actor. But never utilized fully later on. Same goes with Mithun Chakraborty, he has 3 national awards for acting. He has done such a fabulous job In “Tahader Katha”, it’s a bengali film. Its been always a problem with Bollywood. Here we never utilize the potential. Otherwise Parthiv, Vakil(from 1998 SAREGAMAPA) would be very renowned singer by now.
Dear Sajalji:
Hope you wind up your work and have a safe trip back home. I have downloaded the songs, their is some repetition. But, on the whole, a good selection.
Surel Gaani means songs which are in good swara in marathi.
I had seen Mithun’s earlier movie Mrigaya, where he played the role of an archer(?), phenomenal movie…
About the bollywood part, the problem in catering to the Vox is that you tend to manipulate…most bollywood compositions have a very rich texture. A lot of instruments playing itsy bitsy pieces, a chorus and lots of things happening along with the visual imagery makes the song appeal to say 60-70% of the audience. When it does the job is considered done and therefore in all of this the effort to make a good composition is foregone…
I have stopped listening to bollywood songs after the 80’s…although some recent songs (like from A R Rahman and some others)tend to give rise to hope.
Again thanks for all the links and bon voyage.
-$0.02Worth
Dear Indraniji:
I loved the songs by Bhupenji. Bandemataram and Runa Laila are of course very good. But Bhupenji is out of this world(in the sense ethereal)…
-$0.02Worth
Dear Basitji,
Welcome to the forum.
-$0.02Worth.
@Hi all !
I was listening to a bhajan, when it strike my mind to list out a few Bhajans from the Hindi Films, with classical touch in them. Some of them are:
1. Man Tarpat Hari Darshan ko aaj (Mohd. Rafi/ Baiju Baawra /Raag Malkauns).
2. Jay Jagdish hare (Geeta Dutt-Hemant Kumar/Anandmath).
3. Hey Natraj, Gangadhar shambho bholenaath, jai ho (Mahendra Kapoor-Kamal Barot/Sangeet Samrat Tansen).
4. Dhanya bhag, sewa ka avsar paya (Rajan Mishra-Sajan Mishra/Sur Sangam/ Raag Bhairavi)
5. Manmohan man mein ho tumhi (Mohd. Rafi/ Kaise kahoon/Raag Adana).
6. Jaago Mohan Pyaare (Lata /Jaagto Raho/ Raag Bhairav)
7. Jaaon, tore charam kamal par vaari ( Sur Sangam/ Raag Bhoopali).
8. Om Namah Shivay (Bhairavi/ Raag Bhoopali)
9. Allah Tero Naam, Ishwar tero naam (Lata/ Hum dono/ Raag Gaud Sarang)
I think, I am missing a lot of them, because this list could be endless. I would request the music lovers to add more to this list. Please also mention the raaga for the song No. 2 and 3 of the above list. I will try to creat a link for all of these Bhajans to refresh your mornings.
SWEETY
@ All,
Gosh, Good , I didn’t miss anything. Bin reading all posts and sometimes shaking my head and at others, just smiling a Half-a**ed smile !!
Oh man, who brought up the “SARANSH” thing ? was it senty ? or 0.02 ? anyway, it was one of the best movies I have seen in my life, Its a parralell to the italian ” Life is beautiful” not in terms of content and Context, but as far as the message. Anupam Kher did deliver, I used to watch him before the movie, hanging around National College on Linking road, what we used to call it then 0.02 ? ROAD MASTERY ? but once I watched the movie in Bandra talkies, I knew a Star was born. I have one other fav. “SPARSH”,by Sai paranjapee. it has one super song , Khali piyala , dhudhla darpan.
If sombody has a link or even an mp3. I will be grateful.
What else ? hmmm Let me think.
Mehfil
@Mehfil,
Long time no word, actually I was also absent from the bog for >1 week.
Thanks, you reminded me about one of the best movies in my list. I am a big fan of Shabana Azami and Nasiruddin Shah.
I would like to refer to you another book titled “City Woman” edited by Liz Heron in case if you have not read it already. It is international collection of short stories about the city life written by women from different parts of this world including USA, Europe and Asia.
The stories are narration of “self-discovery” by women who wanted to experience their autonomous status in a big city. Real brave writings and very enjoyable.
With regards,
Rekha
Hi Mehfil,
Senty has created a music forum so check this out-
http://senty-musique.blogspot.com
I knew it’ll make sense to come directly to this link .. havent paid attention to the goings on in the main show !
@sweety
I am not a godly person unfortunately, but I really liked the LataM meera bhajan “Aeri main to prem diwani mera dard na jaane koi” (Film : Nau Bahar)
Another one is :
“Jyothi kalash chalke”
from hmm… dont know the movie. Not sure.. Maybe these doenst fit into prayer songs category…
@dockaul
your recommended song “Banwra man” is amazing.. certainly one of the best songs today !
Imagine how many such songs are still out there yet to be discovered by me ! Good job buddy.. keep it up ! Ab meri bhagwan se yehi prarthana hai ki gimme a long healthy life, kaan-vaan aankh-vaankh sab theek-thaak ho, lots of free time, one PC and a solid high-speed internet link. Aur kuch nahin chahiye.
@Mehfil
“Life is beautiful” is one of my all time favs.. they show it regularly on TV here and I never miss it if I know its on. Benigni was truly awesome as a comedian too.
I remember “Sparsh” another DD film for me
but, more than “sparsh” or the recent “Black” (not high on my list) I liked this movie called “Color of paradise” its an Iranian movie (Rang-e khoda) revolving around a *real* blind boy.. If you have access to forin films, this is highly recommended. I’m sure blockbuster (US) carries it.
There was another obscure Gulzar(?) film called “hip hip hurray” starring Dipti Naval and Raj Kiran.. again saw it once remember not much of the film, but a song by Jesudas that goes :
“
Ek subah ek mod par, maine kaha usse rok kar
Haath badha aye zindagi aankh milake baat kar
“
I remember the scene has Raj Kiran jogging in the early morning vaatavaran.
How I remember just these lines… dont know. Its a rare gift I guess (bekaar, faltu, but what the heck !)
Agar koi bhala manus hai jo iss ka link dhoond nikaal sakta/ti hai tho bahut bahut shukriya in advance.
Other offbeat movies that I really liked :
Trikaal – Govind Nihalani
Party – Govind Nihalaai
Parinathi – Prakash Jha ( a creepy film)
@Rekha
The book you recommended sounds interesting..! Most recent “woman” oriented book I read was Khaled Hosseini’s “A Thousand splendid suns”. It was good.. but I liked his “Kite runner” better, narration wise.
- Senty
@Rekha.. Thanks yaar ! I’ll change the songs in “Vividh Bharti” often to provide a variety..
Thinking about a movie review link as well.. lekin usske liye I have to sit and watch the movie

Dear Doctor Saheb (Dockaul),
Priceless bhajans of the highest quality!
Great job!!
I would suggest some Anoop Jalota bhajans.
Closest to my heart & soul is “Jab Praan Tan se Nikle”
Keep up the good work… I appreciate!
YO Rekha Dudette,
Thanks for the link, I tried amazon.com. but they have a different one under the same title, I hope this is the one you are recommending:

Also, ( Don’t you get alarmed here ! ), Don’t you think it would be a great idea if there is a Connected blog for Books and Reading as well ? I did visit senty’s Blog ( How could I NOT ?), and liked the links on the side panel and bottom, can we also not have a link to the books and reading there? or you can simply create a new blog at blogspot for READING and categorize that under books/articles/reviews/links to articles ( both Desi and Phorin). etc ,etc.
For some reason, this blog , with some creative, passionate and knowlegable people has spread its wings and then… it makes you crave for more, hence the suggestion.. I’d like to continue the connection with most of the bloggers for varied interests about music/movies/books/and ofcourse FUNtimes !
I will be a regular at Senty’s Blog ( I raid DocKauls esnips everyday, thanks Doc ), for I know that I may come accross some great music there.
and if the above sounds like TOO MUCH WORK…, please post some of your fav books right here, I’d obliged.
where is the GOFUR Anon ? I need ( let me Stress here.. I NEEEEEED), the khali Piyala song from Sparsh, help !!!!
Regards to all
Mehfil
@Mehfil
Buddy, I got to get back to work like NOW ! but I love ur idea of book reviews and discussions. will add a link..
yaar.. I’ve to split myself into two.. this weekend is a washout for me.. but PLEASE continue to visit my blog.. I’ll do regular upgrade/updates. I’ll add Doc’s (there are some new bhajans !) 0.02 and my esnips links too..
This is getting more and more exciting !
- Senty
A separate blog for books and movie reviews would be good I think. Anyone wants to start it ?
later…
- Senty
@Mehfil.. Good to see some one is benefiting from my constant uploading of my treasures because the utter lack of comments in the esnips folder is disheartening. It all seems so useless.. I had almost stopped uploading.. Thanks for the same
Hey Mehfil,
Vowwwwwww, such a great idea to start a blog for books and movie reviews etc. Something like “cafe corner” where you just exchange views about your favourite books or movies. Soooo exciting even to imagine what kind of blog or a link it would be. Totally agree with you this blog is spreading its wings in the most creative fashion.
The best thing would be to request dear Senty to add another link to the music blog. Bhai sub feathers is “blog bird” kai saath-saath rakhte hai, taki urne mai asani hogi.
I have a huge collection of books and movies, so I will post the list. About “City Woman” book, let me check out the link first.
Regards,
Rekha
Hey Mehfil,
I did check that link. That does not look to be the right one. Try Bookfinder.com. This book is listed on their site, though published by another company now. Originally “City Women” was published by Beacon Press/Boston in year 1993. Border books have the title but it is clearly marked as “out of print”.
So try Bookfinder site.
@Senty,
Ya, your guess is good. This book is very interesting. I have read it many times and still I pick up when I am in REAL mood of reading.
I have yet to read “Kite Runner”. Lately, so many people have told me about it.
I am a movie BUFF so I can post the review on your movie review link. Like I said to Mehfil that is “blog bird” ke sare feathers ek site pur rakhengai toh usai urne mai asani hogi.
@Rekha
I’ll create a section for the movies/books review.. looking fwd to them from you.. I’ll do this over the weekend after the circus is over.
“Kite Runner” is highly recommended. I believe the movie is coming out soon.. but I suggest you read it before you watch the movie.
G’night
- Senty
@Rekha
Got it gal ! thanks, I am expecting the book on monday !
Do post your Fav.books on senty’s blog, I will do the same. Last night I made a GRAND discovery, and was pleasantly Amused. can you guess Mehfil’s zodiac sign? checkout later ( way later at senty’s blog !
@Senty
You DID it gal, you have managed to collect all the ” BIKHRAY HUAY LOG”, and I see most of them are heading to your blog, isnt it awesome ? It goes to show that it takes very little to make friends, what really takes a lot is to keep them HAPPY ! you have successfully completed the first step. for the second part, I suggest, duniya chor de dost, noukri chor do and be BINDAS, for that is the ONLy way you can keep all of us happy. besides, I’m very very Demanding, Ain’t I ?
Keep it up gal, I’m sure soon we will have a blast on your blog, just wondering what will happen when your blog grows beyond the space limit ? Oh well, we will think about it later. for Now, everything looks cool. Looks like this blog will evenatually be a separate DOTCOM ( Well, I’m a Visionary, what can I say !!!). Kudos gal.
0.02, anon, raj and mdoc73 are missing in action.
@Dockaul
Your collection is NOT going unnoticed, I refered a few friends to your esnips, I wanted to leave a few comments, but the firewall at home doesnt let me post, last night I made a few changes, I promise to leave a THANK YOU NOTE and ofcourse my demands for more music! Thank you for your effort and a magnificent collection.
Regards
Mehfil
@Mehfil / @all
Thanks for your encouraging words !! its indeed exciting to be able to keep in touch with all of you. I hope the bichde hue log somehow will find their way to us soon. I miss Harsh&Raw.. she was my parter in many mudda we took up way back in the early days of this show in this blog. And I miss mdoc73, Priti, Harvinder (few posts but brought back bhoole-bisere songs in his posts).. kahan ho aap log ?
Alse expecting a huge participation from our dear friends from the other side of the border… Please tashreef laayiye !
I have to credit dockaul for constantly pushing me to start my own blog. Thanks doc !
I like Mehfil’s vision of a dotcom LOL… why not ! But seriously, my dream is to discuss, discover and share anything and everything about music…. and now books and movies too. Rest is que sera sera.
I will do more cleanup and upgrade to the blog later this weekend/next week.
Remember guys, its not MY blog, its OUR blog !! (Dang !! Agla elections kab hai ?)
- Senty
@Senty,
Thanks for the movies/books review section. The movie “Kite Runner” is going to be out shortly which means I have to read the book now. So I am planning to make a trip to near by Borders this weekend.

@ all regulars , will be more active in a few weeks, gotten busy ..
note to self-i need to bookmark sentys blog..
oh re: my movie forum, its gotten kinda defunct, i will migrate important and interesting stuff from there to your blog senty when time permits
Dear Anonji,
AWOL and sabbatical are interpreted in a similar way I guess. I had taken a break, there was nothing to comment on. Its amazing how much hatred exists lying latent for the right opportunity to inflame…People seem to be waiting for an opportunity to spout noisome offal.
I liked the clip, it had a religious/festive air, an air of anticipation and innocence/the feel of teenage years…all kinds of magic in the air. Takes us all back to that time, I guess. Need more of such magical moments!!
I agree with you, the couple look “divine” and Salluji’s entrance is so well timed. Wish them a lot of success and to all of you.
I will miss you, mehfilji, Sumitroji, Sajalji, Indraniji, Sentyji, Sweetyji, Basitji, dockaulji, Rekhaji and all the others. In case I have missed anybody, pls. accept my apologies.
I respectfully wish all of you a happy life. With love and respect, let me wish all of you -

am glad u liked the picturization of”yun shabnami” i wasnt expecting the qawalli part to be picturised on dancing holy men but what the hey,,it worked for me!
i actually have no interest in lil champs..i think little kids voices just sound weird ( esp the boys)
i guess shreya was the exception
and there was this yucky video of a barely 10 – 11 y old boy( ?samir) in full rockstar gear with his gaggle of young female back up dancers on youtube that i found rather disturbing..v precocious behaviour
whatever happened to the innocent childhood that was part of my memories.. i dont remember 11 year old girls dressed as adult female back up dancers..

People do check out da Waqar Ali song Tum Kaisi Mohabbat Karte Ho suggested by SKhan.. **** Rating.
@dockaul – I am glad you liked the song so much. He is a truly talented singer. Unfortunately he does not have too many CDs in the market. Such a shame!!! Waqar’s claim to fame is singing the titles for some popular Pakistani Urdu Dramas. Here is another gem from Waqar that some of you may have heard before.

Quick note before I leave for work.. I have been listening to “mera naam hai mohabbat” for a long time now.. but havent got a good quality download yet. Sajjad Ali (brother ?) downloads are available though.
Also, if you could give a download link to Shafqat Amanat Ali’s punjabi song from the Pak TV serial “Makaan” that’ll be awesome ! I think the music of this is also by Waqar Ali. Id be very greatful if youll post this info in the senty-musique blog as well.

Dear 0.02 jee,
Abhi na jaao chhod ke!!
Senty jee’s blog will be a good place for reunion, as suggested by Doc jee.
Without you I will remain only a passive participant in this and in the senty-musique blog as I am now — I only read posts but have become somewhat blasé about writing myself.
My best wishes are always with you, but don’t wish to utter the last farewell yet.
Senty/Dockaul/All music fans,
Try one of my favourite ghazal sung by Ustad Amanat Ali Khan, alaap in the end is very special..

I was reviewing the recommendations in this forum (ya taking my own sweet time !!) and I checked out the “Raqs-e-bismil” album by Abida Parveen. I downloaded it this weekend from emusic.
Mindblowing !! You suggested “Zahid ne” and from there I went to the album and got hooked to the whole album … for life !
Thank you Saniya, whoever you are, whereever you are, for sending my way, this amazing stupendous divine collection of some of the best sufi work by Abida Parveen.
“Raqs-e-bismil” is a Muzaffar Ali presentation. I also very strongly recommend Musaffar Ali’s “Husn-e-jaana” a great collection of ghazals.
I will post this msg in senty-musique.blogspot.com in case you visit there.

thats so sweet of you.. i’m so very glad you enjoyed the music… i just love that CD – my dad was playing it once and i heard it and started listening to it it was really a divine experience for me — this woman’s voice and the compositions are just great… i would also recommend some of the faiz’s ghazals she has sung.. http://www.pakistanimusic.com >> Select her in artists and you can check out some of the ghazals by her –I think the album is called “Faiz by Abida” and some of my favourites are “Hamne sab sher mai” …hope you’ll enjoy it as much…

@SC
Thanks for sharing this good news. Any idea if Poonam, Raja and Mussarat are part of this group? I heard sometime back that these contestants had not signed any contract with Zee TV.
Rekha
@Rekhaji,
It is true that Poonam, Raja and Musarrat have not signed any contract with Zee, but they are part of the SRGMP tour of Canada, US and Europe. Actually, not having signed any contract could be a blessing in disguise for these individuals, as they are not bound by Zee and can take up any assignment. Just look at Debojit who was bound by a contract, and what happened to him. Lets all pray for the successful future of these singing stars of the future.
@Ashrafji,
Thanks very much. Indeed it is a blessing for these 3 stars not to get in any kind of binding with Zee TV. Any idea what cities in USA they are going to visit? As posted by SCji, New Jersey is one of them. If you have come across any other related news, pl let us know.
With regards,
Rekha
@Rekhaji
SRGMP team is scheduled in Perform in Atlanta, GA and Dallas, TX, besides New Jersey. I believe, since Zee is not doing any charity work, and the tour means money to them, they will definitely have the team perform at all the possible locations that has a sizeable Indo-Pak (Hindi/Urdu speaking/knowing) population. Some reliable information regarding the tour can also be found at http://www.rajahasan.com, website dedicated to Raja.

Looking forward to some dynamic interaction for the duration of SRGMP VY 2209.
It was a truly enriching experience here during C07. My music collection has almost doubled since then. I got into some new “joners” of music that I was not much familiar with before.
I hope this forum is revived and gets more visibility. Its sad that I have to google to get here

some sur saaz and soz ..
Mehfuz – from “Aamir”
What I like about this one..?? Well everything.. sufiish, nice lyrics, handsome non-Khan hero Rajeev Khandelwal
One of the few songs in 2008 that made it to my collection.
I am leaving out the maa and pehli nazar and the zara si dil mein de jagah tu … etc.. These did make it to my collection.. but I wanted to talk about something that is not much talked about.
In the spirit of Sufism a link would have been appreciated..
