I enjoyed watching the Salman episode. He was quite entertaining. Laloo probably will be as well. Who do you think would be a really good adn entertaining guest on SRGMP?

The oracle says Elimination in SRGMP will be as follows-
      1. Harpreet
      2. Mussarat
      3. Sumedha
      4. Poonam
      5. Amanat
      6. Mauli

The final will be between Aneek & Raja with 65% chance of Aneek winning.

The oracle further says that this result is established according to the present idiocy parameters being followed by the organizers of the show. If sanity returns the predictions stand canceled & obviously the final will be between Mussarat & Amanat.

Hey, Mussarat is the Best. His “Aafreen Aafreen” song is still swirling through my ears. He should be number one. His voice is touching the mountains which hardly anybody can do. Amant sure is a very good singer but his voice and singing is sweet, not different.

          Comments-
BD – Very good Bahut acche bus thora low notes par dhyan rakkho. 19-20 sur theek nahin tha par chalega
ID – Mindblowing 10. Tumhari Maa ki kya kahani hai??
HR – Thoda dil se aur gaana tha & will proceed to demonstrate by singing Hooton se chuu lo tum :-)
VS – You have okay voice quality but are struck in a genre repeatedly singing soulful heartwrenching Ghazals. We would like to see u perform Signaal Pyar ka Signaal by Remo

I request the viewers esp Senty & Kanan, Harsh & Raw to conduct auditions for other singers too

but good to know your detailed observations on music and singing…

i haven’t had any chance over the last few days, actually weeks, to comment on any srgmp episodes…since you and HR are doing good jobs..

but clear me on that, if i am wrong about you :D

To Vijay, great job, lol ;)

              @ sid, you said:
[I don't think that Pakistani television/government would even allow Indians to come in and sing freely. I think that the Pakistani people would have welcomed Indian singers but that they would have recieved threats from religious extremists.]

You are right and wrong at the same time. You are wrong that Pakistani television and government would not allow Indian artists to come and sing/act in Pakistan, because many of them have come and have performed (as someone said above). But you are right that they may end up getting threats from religious fanatics as I believe Sonu ran into troubles when he came over and I wouldn’t be surprised if you send item girls to sing item numbers then the Mullahs would go bonkers. But please don’t send Rakhi Sawant, because if you do then I’d side with Mullahs as well.

Above I’m just kidding. You have to understand that Pakistan is not a great market for any kind of artists, but India is!. I believe the far and few Indian artists who do come over, are doing it for the sake of harmony but if Poonam Dilhon and Neha Duphia come to act in Pakistan, is that a favor or what??

This makes me recall a comment made by someone else against Junaid Shaikh. Let me tell you something, Pakistanis have lots of Pop singers laying around in that country. India on the other hand really need – lots and lots of – Pop singers. You guys can have Junaid Shaikh and you would still need many more.

              Rest later

Who agrees with me that Indian Idol and VOI are honestly following the public vote but SRGMPA isn’t?

Look, they’ve been voting out the best, Toshi is over rated and makes mistakes, I don’t know what Jatin Pundit smokes but Toshi is not that great of a singer. But I don’t think he should have been out so early (as the rumor suggest).

II3 has consistently removing the best and have left the worst for the last.

All this indicates that public are voting correctly and the organizers are following the public voting with all honesty.

SRGMPA on the other hand are dishonest in terms of getting votes, they advertise their voting window to last the whole week, but their voting window is too short because they shoot the episodes early in the week. On top of that, they’re not eliminating according to how junta is voting, so they’re dishonest all around.

Another proof of why I think I’m right: SRGMPA is hugely popular, it beats both II3 and SVOI hands down in ratings and public emotions. Are these not the signs of ignoring junta and running your show as politicians with a mind?

May be CIA would like to have a word with Himesh, next time when he comes to sing in your baseball stadium, you make sure you don’t let him come back to India. The jails in India are occupied by stars anyway, you know what I’m saying.

                                  @dockaul – LOL! very funny! :D

                                  Here goes:

Aditya – Hi everybody (in American accent)! Aaj hamare liye geet gaa rahe hai Manna Dey!

Manna Dey sings “re man sur mein gaa…“. The most famous female contestant is assigned to sing the female part of the song (original sung by Asha Bhosle).

(Audience applauds and Aditya returns on stage with a horrified look of “what in the name of God was that?”)

Judges comments and marks – (the scoring become corrupted after the judges realized the whole show was corrupted so now all four of them give marks)

HR – tum gale se gaate ho, kahin aur se ganeka try karo, aur thoda sur mein gaao. pehle apne hi genre mein achha gaao to tumko jaroor roti milegi. ten! dus! ten! dus!

ID – (tobacco chewing) mind blowing! exxiilent! kya gaya hai yaar… (spits) main to saath mein manjira baja raha tha. (spits) toone aur tere man ne dono ne bahot sur mein gaya. (spits) poooooooooraa dusssss! (spits some more)

HR – Baki sabhi singers ko seekhna chahiye tum se.

ID – Aise hi gaate rahe to koi singer ko wada-paav ki dukaan pe baithne ki naubat nahi aayegi.

VS – You did a good job, but it could have been better. You seem to have a stomach ache, but still you sang so well. And when music is playing, dont try to remember the lyrics, just sing. Audience ko pata chalna chahiye tum lyrics rat ke aaye ho. Hum aap ko 7 denge. Once you come behind our mike, it will become 10. We will work on the missing 3 points together.

BL – Manna tum achhe singer ho lekin thoda low notes pe bhi dhyan do aur sur 10-15 ho gaya tha. (sings a few lines of re man sur mein gaa to demonstrate how to sing low notes) Main tum ko 7 deta hoon aur 1 aur kyon ki female singing iss geet mein bahot achha tha. Aur aaj tum ne kamar bilkul nahi hilayi. Kyon?

                                  Manna Dey faints on stage.

PS. No offense to any of the Mannada and music fans. It’s all in jest.

After at all who win or loose its not the issue its about who will get chance to be singer in bollywood. one after other all have to leave that stage eventually. I think winner is junaid and amanat , so on who already is singing in movies. whats the point being another debu jeet.. jeet is seperated from devu or debu whoever is that.. freakin hillarious.

Is it “Kabhi aa mil” or “Kadi aa mil”? I dont know and the web is giving me both lyrics.
Thnx for suggesting other Meekal Hassan songs. Its from the album “Sampooran” right?? See this is one of the songs that I heard for the first time when Amanat sang in srgmp … after that I went researching about this song on the web !!

Like a fool, I still watch this show with the hope that I will discover other beautiful songs that I may otherwise miss forever :-( Sigh !!

In fact I would love to hear from others in this form as well on what they think are great songs .. even if it has not been performed on srgmp.

                                      @i48998
I dont think that khudkushi song is sung by Himesh himself but the music is by him….at least thats what Darling says.. This song kinda hints at professional suicide for Musarrat if he is waiting for guruji to hit the torch on the path to success.

                                      Regarding your post above :

“Pakistanis have lots of Pop singers laying around in that country. India on the other hand really need – lots and lots of – Pop singers. You guys can have Junaid Shaikh and you would still need many more.”

I am sure you meant it in the right spirit, and yes, I would 100% agree that Pakistan has more quality Pop talent at this point and we (India) welcome them with open arms.. but its not that India “requires” pop singers.

India has ALWAYS welcomed music from all over the world, any genre of music at any time.
Remember Bappida India- Bharat – Mein Disco leke aaya……;-) (thanks Vijay !!)
and Alisha Chinai Madonna leke aayee.

Way back in 80s an African band, practically unknown, called “Osibisa” visited India and we rocked with them with the same ehthu we showed for Runa Laila from Bangladesh, Reshma, Nazia/Zoheb, and all those ghazal singers like Ghulam Ali, Mehdi Hassan etc from Pak. And ofcourse NFAK !!

I feel both our countries are so highly musically talented and its a shame to have to battle with political and religious sentiments before getting the freedom to express the talent on each other’s soil.

                                            Hi All-
The honest truth is that I’m loser enough to pay through my nose for internet JUST SO I can find out what’s going on with the show.

What I will on this forum, though, is this…..Jo pyaar ki baat hai, vishwas ki baat hai, jo rishton ki buniyaad hai, woh ITTTTAANNNNI (HR style) mazboot ho gayi hai….maine socha kyun na yahaan comment karoon aur APNE MA-BAAP KA NAAM ROSHAN KAROON. (Seriously why does Himesh bring everyone’s ma-baap into the picture?)

@Senty, just yesterday I was playing my fave Lata songs on a non-stop loop and thinking we should have people on this forum comment on what kind of songs people should pick to maintain the competition’s standard. Another way to phrase it: if there were a judges’ choice round (yeah, keep dreaming), what kind of songs should judges ask contestants to sing…and here’s my list, in no particular order-
                                            1. Aapki Nazaron Ne Samjha (Anpadh)- Once upon a time you could tell who would be a winner on SRGM based on how well they sang this song…THAT’S how many people used to pick this gem.
                                            2. Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (Manna Dey) – I’m known to fall in love with anyone who can sing any complex taraana well.
                                            3. Chupke Chupke Raat Din (Nikah, Ghulam Ali)- Man, I so want Amanat to sing this ghazal one of these days!! I’m restricting myself to filmi ghazals in this list because they seem to be the most well-known ghazals these days.
                                            4. Hosh Waalon Ko Khabar Kya (Sarfarosh, J. Singh) – Actually this isn’t even one of my most favorite ghazals, but I’ve known people who started appreciating ghazals BECAUSE of this one so I’ll put it here.
                                            5. Tumko Dekha To Yeh Khayal Aaya (Saath-Saath, J. Singh) – Seems easy enough but that’s only if you sing all the notes really “straight”. To get ALL of it right is quite something, and needs some amazing gamak.
                                            6. Suniyo Ji Araj Mhaari (Lekin, Lata) – The.Most.Amazing.Anyone. Has.Ever.Sung. I heard it throughout the length of my flight yesterday and it’s still playing in my mind.
                                            7. Yaara Seeli Seeli (Lekin, Lata) Does anyone else think Hridaynath Mangeshkar is one of the most underappreciated music directors in the history of the world?
                                            8. Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo (Monsoon Wedding, Farida Khanum)

                                            15. Khaali Haath Shaam Aayi Hai (Ijaazat, Asha) Another really underappreciated ghazal.

                                            21. Neend Se Aankh Khuli Hai (Beyond Time, Chitra Singh) Non-filmi, but I had to mention it because it wins my vote for the most amazing ghazal sung by a woman.
                                            22. Lambi Judai (Hero, Reshma) Been sung umpteen times on umpteen shows but I never tire of it.

                                            24. Woh Chup Rahein To (Jahaan Aara) – I think this was the first ghazal I ever loved.
OK I’ll stop now, this could go on forever. I’d love see know what makes your list, Senty.

@Senty, yes “kadhi aa mil” is from Mekaal Hasan’s Sampooran. And other songs of MH are also quite good. You should hear their raag darbari track “yaare man buya” if you get a chance. It’s truely amazing.

If gurus were to audition… oh my! I can’t even imagine that. *sheesh* some of the contestants would start looking like gems in front of them.

This forum is a BAAAAD HABIT !!

I changed my build machine to Solaris last week so that I can use my XP to prowl this forum (software janta will know what I mean).

                                                  @Harsh&Raw/Kanan

*All* on your list will make mine too .. easily. OMG, we have such GREAT songs in our music history !!
80s/90s was a bad patch in my opinion. I completely weaned off
Indian film music during that time.

“Aaj jaane ki zid na karo” was one of my first intro to Pak music almost 15 years ago !! Sung by Habibwali Mohammad. Later heard Farida Khanum’s version and was it mindblowing or what !!
I didnt know it is in “Monsoon Wedding”. I dont watch movies even 1% as much as I listen to music.

Ok here you go (I would like Amanat Ali to attempt some of these.. but others, please, kripaya, stick to your genre..!!)

My list is omitting the obvious great songs.. which I’m sure will be in all our lists..

                                                  Some non-filmi ghazals :

Yeh dil yeh pagal dil mera – Ghulam Ali.
Dil mein ik leher si uthi hai abhi – Ghulam Ali
Main teri sulagti yaadon se – Ghulam Ali
Itni muddat baad mile ho – Ghulam Ali. Actually, this was also sung by Dilraj Kaur. Both are very good.
Yun saja chand ke chalka tere andaaz ka rang – Asha Bhosle. The story goes like this… I heard this song long back on another talent show on TV (dont remember which) in one of the non-filmi rounds !! I struggled to get more info on this since I didnt have internet-vinternet that time. Years later finally I got it on the web.
Raat gayi kar tara tara – Jagjit singh (its a punjabi ghazal) Many of you may not even have heard it.. I stumbled on it on emusic.com while searching for something else.
Shola hoon bhadakne ki guzarish nahin karta (JS)
Os pade bahaar par (Chitra Singh)
Phir kisi rahguzar par shaayad (JS)
Bahut dinon ki baat hai fiza ko yaad bhi nahin (JS – the *BESTEST* of JS)
Ishq fanah ka naam hai – Chitra Singh (I dont like her voice.. too shrill.. but this is a great ghazal. well done.)
Gulshan ki faqat phoolon se nahin kaanton se bhi zeenat hoti hai (Jagjit singh)

                                                  Some filmi :

Poocho na kaise maine raine bitaai – Manna dey
Kaun aaya mere man ke dware – Manna dey
Woh chup rahen to (Wow.. my fav of Lataji as well.)
Yun hasraton ke daag – Adaalat, Lata
Thandi hawayen – Lata. sounds easy.. but difficult to sing. Beginning tune was later lifted by Roshan for “Rahen na rahe hum”.
Lag ja gale se – I like this song better than “naina barse” – same movie.
Kuhu kuhu bole koyaliya – this is an amazing duet by Lata and Rafi. I dont have much training in classical.. but this one takes the cake.. the whole bakery for the best classical song “eva” in hindi music. I think the movie is “swarnasundari” (!)
Mere man ke diye – Parakh. This song is pretty easy to sing as well.. but there is no background music.. its an amazing lori. Beautiful !! Salil Chaudary music. Rarely heard.
Yehi woh jagah hai – Asha Bhosle
Jahan mein aisa kaun hai – Asha Bhosle (Hum Dono, sad version of “Abhi na jao chod kar”)
Aage bhi jaane na thu – Asha Bhosle
Man re tu kahe na dheer dhare – Rafi
Naache man mora magan – Rafi
Tumse kahoon ek baat – Rafi
Rang aur noor ki baraat kise pesh karoon – Rafi
Yeh duniya yeh mehfil mere kaam ki nahin – Rafi

Here are some from across the border that I enjoy :

Kaise chupau raaze gham – Mehdi Hassan
Khuda kare ke mohabbat mein yeh makaam aaye – Mehdi Hassan. I think Talat Aziz did a cover version of MH ghazals and this is one of them.
Zindagi mein to sabhi – Mehdi Hassan
                                                  Well, Basically MehdiHassan*.*
Inshaji utho ab kuch karo – Amanat Ali (the Ustad, *not* the srgmp kiddo)
                                                  Mausam badla – Amanat Ali
Honton pe kabhi unke mera naam hi aaye – Amanat Ali

Ghar wapas jab aaoge to kaun tumhe pehchanega – Asad Amanat Ali (You MUST listen to this one… if you have missed it !!)
Arz-e-niyaaze ishq ke kaabil nahi raha – Asad Amanat Ali (this too…!!)

Mere humnafas mere humnawa mujhe dost banke dagha na de – Farida Khanum
Kuch ishq tha kuch majboori thi – Farida Khanum
Woh ishq jo humse rooth gaya – Farida Khanum

I truly feel that Pakistan should also hold something of this sort and that Indians should send good singers to the competition…
Maybe in the coming years with the broadening of technologies to the farther regions of each countries some of the biases can change to the positive…
I know that we on this forum have already discussed this many times over, but I just wanted to clarify my comments…

I know my list is very very odd. Many regular music listeners wont give it a second look because the songs are very rarely heard.

I hunt for such rare songs. Thats my timepass actually :-)

In “Parakh”, Lataji’s “O Sajna barkha bahaar aayi” is most popular… but not the “Mere man ke diye” song which is more melodious.

I feel very fortunate that I caught these songs early on in my life and right now I am collecting them like its nobody’s business :0)

The “across the border” ones dont have great beats or attractive tunes.. but the lyrics are to die for.

                                                            @Kanan,
Most of the songs on your list would make mine too, except I was consciously avoiding songs that (I think) people know about. That’s why there are so many ghazals too, some from lesser known movies. Getting people to give credit to underappreciated people has somehow become the mission of my life! Ask my why I like(d) Junoon’s music, and the answer is “because they make such good use of the tabla”. Once it entered my head that the tabla was the most fabulous instrument ever (I mean seriously, melody AND rhythm!) and under-appreciated, ALL I could hear when I listened to a song was whether it used the tabla or not and in what way. This is precisely why I liked Lukka Chhuppi (RDB) — the antara is so simple but the tabla..oh the timing, the taal used..all of it is just PERFECT and makes the antara SO MUCH more beautiful!!

                                                            @Senty and @Kanan both-
Tora man darpan (Kaajal) is a Lata song. Sadly, not my favorite any more ’cause I totally dissected it in 10th grade for a competition (I won)! It’s like how your favorite chapter in the English textbook is no longer your favorite once the teacher has dissected it to bits. Ditto for Shokh Nazar Ki Bijliyaan (Woh Kaun Thhi). I couldn’t decide between this one and Aao Huzoor Tumko for another competition so practiced both, finally picked Aao Huzoor. Lag Ja Gale (Woh Kaun Thhi) is another great song that’s stood by me whenever I didn’t have time to practice, and I like it more than Naina Barse too, except I’m yet to sing the latter before an audience. I was going to include Chitra Singh’s Tu Nahin To Zindagi Mein (Saath Saath) but I sang it for a recital 2 yrs back and you know the story. I would play it day and night to get every nuance right and I haven’t heard it ONCE since the recital. Humne Dekhi Hai (Khamoshi) is one song I didn’t include on my list thinking then I’d end up including a whole lot of other songs that I consider are on the same ‘level’ of tough/easy (to be FAIR to them) and that would take too much time :)
Examples of that would be ‘Akele Hain Chale Aao Jahaan Ho’, ‘Zara Si Aahat Hoti Hai’,

The songs I can’t BELIEVE I missed out are Rasik Balma and KUHU KUHU BOLE KOYALIYA (OMG what an awesome song)!

I would also add Nadiya Kinare (Abhimaan)
I used the Monsoon Wedding reference because I was sticking to ghazals that have been featured in movies (for the convience of these bachchas on the forum, that is). Sheesh, I feel so old. Senty, I have to go check out at least half of your list dude (and that’s not even counting the across the border songs)! Pray that I am able to wait until the end of my “vacation”! Also, please check out teh album Beyond Time by J/C Singh if you haven’t already.
I’m tempted to add my fave non-filmi ghazals as well but…there’s the vacation in my way.

Don’t mean to sound petty, but if I were the award the bakery to one song it would be Suniyo Ji (Lekin).

                                                            OMG I need to go!!!
                                                            -Harsh&Raw
PS: Could we exchg email addresses to facilitate better communication, please? :)

If you take it out, you don’t have any life left in that music. Well, I think Senty already knows where to go to see my favorite songs. :) You girls should start writing your blogs with your favorite songs like I do. That way we all can share our favorites and learn about new songs.

Another good one is megha chhaaye aadhi raat from Sharmilee, and also tumhe dekhti hoon to from Tumhare liye. Both by Lata. Pawan deewani is lovely! That reminds me of aye ri jaane na doongi.

Btw, H&R, I thought tora man darpan of Kaajal was by Asha and not Lata. No? I could be mistaken though.

Just to clarify one more thing yes as some people already mentioned there have been lot of indian artists that have been acting in pakistani dramas, have visited pakistan in the recent years, among them akshay kumar (i feel thats why he made that comment about pak in SRGMP since has experienced the love from pakistanis when he visited), urmila, sushmita sen, shubha m. etc – have performed in pakistan in karachi lahore etc and have recieved exceptional treatment – (btw i am not denying there are extreme elements in pakistan and sometimes exaggerated more by the media but nevertheless this is not the norm in pak)…. okkay i’ll stop here and here is a collabortive video done by urmila and Shafqat Amanat Ali’s Fuzon group…
                                                                        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psyCc-PqG2E

Abidaji is the definitive colossus of Sufiana singing & Munni Begum is the Jagjit Singh of Pakistan (Easy on the ear/easy to understand).

Or perhaps those luce lafange awaara who watch n get cheap thrills r voting her…

lastly, for those who think i got no right and no business to say this…get a life…she is on the national tv…on a reality show…we the audience are asked to vote the participants…so tat makes this my business n my right too…

I mentioned it earlier he is such a versatile singer….. Raja, Musarat, Amanat all are very good singer but they can sing only particular type of songs. But today Aneek sang Kisorda & Manna dey’s duet song by himself. He is true singer…. believe me.
