not that i want mussarat to go, i am just predicting based on the politics of this damn show..
mussarat definitely has produced the best perfomance of the show with saanwre. truly goosebump inducing and none of the others have come even remotely close to reproducing something like saanwre
having said that, mussarat is not versatile.. but would i wanna go see him in a show singing NFAK songs.. you bet!!
the step childs on this show are poonam and mussarat definitely..
himesh has totally sidetracked mussarat in favor of his new protege… and while ID does always have nice things to say about Poonam, she just doesnt get the “wah wahs” that the raja and aneeks get.. not fair !

i think junaid was a better singer than Harp but he didnt get the support from VS too..so count him among the oprhans too.. plus the comments made by Vishal after junaids elimination were outta line.

mauli is too bad….I dont know how she is still there….I dont understand what she sings(or shouts)?who is voting for her???raja,amanat & aneek are very good.Too good in fact…It will be more than a shock if I see someone other than Mauli go out.

Do you honestly believe Amanat was VOTED #1? I know that’s what we want to believe for the sake of our collective sanity and health, but I gave up on this voting-shoting b/s long back. The way I look at it, they didn’t have a choice.
Raja or Aneek getting the max votes after Vishal’s comments last time would have looked conspired inspite of their track record in the voting game. Mauli’s already been #1 before, and that was to fool some of us into thinking that the reason she’s still around is there are lots of horny idiots voting for her => there are people voting and their votes do count. Poonam’s been #1 before as well, in fact this was the week after the shameless TRP-hogging coverage about her family/situation. This was to make us think people took sympathy on her or felt bad for her and voted => there are people voting and their votes do count. Now they KNOW Amanat is one hell of a singer, they know he has quite a fan following, and they know he’s probably the one who’s got the most work on his hands from the film industry of all the contestants in the darned show. And then there’s the cool dude look and the love triangle, to boot. We are supposed to believe people are falling for all that => there are people voting, for whatever reason, and their votes do count.
The only thing that’ll make me a believer now is Amanat WINNING.

H&R i too think Amanat is “chosen” to be the topper this week.. I mean he’s an awesome singer and he should’ve been the topper a couple of times already judging by how many ppl like his singing… so ofcourse they had to put him on the top atleast once otherwise it looks too un real…
and also ms.senty jee bechara jab tail lagata tha koi nahi phoochta tha and i think it must be our ID’s suggestion to him to show a little “mast” side of him to lure people.. but he seems like a simple person by nature just like mussarat…whose even worse than him.. too simple… so all these too simple ones like mussarat, poonam and amanat are becharay not getting the appreciation they deserve esp the first two… anyways i think next week is mussarat’s turn coz sumheda they want for more glamour and drama.. or it could be her also..either one.. dekhiay agay kia hota hai..
I doubt if Amanat will win this. in fact I dont mind if he gets out fast (like Junaid) and gets on with his career and gives us some great music real soon.
The guys who need this srgmp title badly, and the moolah that comes with it, are Raja and Mouli. The gurus have some projects for these two, but do we see any demand for them from outside ?? Nah !!
Aneek, Junaid, Musarrat, Amanat and Poonam have been sought out by other music directors who have found that these voices guarentee return of investment… now, thats what counts. I’m still not sure about Sumedha’s Mahesh Bhatt project.. we’re not hearing about it as much as we should be… C’mon, its a “Mahesh Bhatt” project !! Hit music guaranteed….

i read a post above about none of the female contestants being good….thats probably bcos all the good female singers were eliminated by the mahagurus or because the judges were biased towards mauli….first sarika was eliminated by ashaji and then anita and shresta were out because of a 2nd chance given 2 mauli and paritality from the judges towards her….basically all the good female singers were out bcos of her…

i am actually not surprised by harpreet’s elimination. i am wondering whose mastermind is it behind the show’s elimination sequence.i mean VS had 3 contestants till now and they and now 2 of them are eliminated and to crown it all raja is in the fourth position.in the past weeks, either only 1 of them(once or twice 2 of the)have come to bottom 3.
this might seem funny but from the time they have started giving those watches to the #1 of the week, no one has become #1 twice.
and 1 more thing, i am not a great fan of mauli forget great fan i am not even a fan of hers but i feel v must all stop abusing/blaming her as it is not her fault that zee is keeping her in the show. c’mon any normal person would continue in any show.no one will voluntarily quit when they are also being appreciated.

Sorry dude, I dont agree with you. Being a music lover, I would vote for any contestant who sings well regardless of where he/she is from. Amanat and Mussarat are very good singers and have a lot to offer to Indian music, I dont mind voting for them.

I am going to say something that most people might not like.
I also do not agree that the Paki singers should have sang Indian national songs, But…
I don’t think that Pakistani television/government would even allow Indians to come in and sing freely. I think that the Pakistani people would have welcomed Indian singers but that they would have recieved threats from religious extremists. That is my opinion so please comment on it if your opinion on this matter is different.

I’m from Pakistan but based in UK. You are right to some extent. But i dont know whether have you come across ARY digital TV. Its a Pakistani channel and almost every other tv drama serial includes indian artists. So no one is willing to fight or to keep some sort of grudges. Every one is willing to improve and ready to accept teachers of any race, religion or nationality. Regarding extremisim in Pakistan its really very disappointing. But its on a very very low scale. Its the media which is exposing it a lot. So safe mate. Take care and best regards

but.. my point is - are we aspiring as a nation to be compared to a dictatorship like Pakistan or we are aspiring for higher and loftier goals -like secularism, religious freedom for all, and making the absolute basics of human existence -like roti, kapda, makan being made available to ALL indians irrespective for creed/class/color/social status?
Pakistan has never had a tradition of democracy and religious freedom. It didnt come into being as a secular democracy( unlike India). And democracy has never been able to take root there for many many reasons.Also there are definitely stronger ties to jehadi elements in pakistan..
Nonetheless, i believe the average joe blow in pakistan probably doesnt harbor hatred for india..and naively I would like to believe the same for my fellow indians..
We should not be overly concerned with “tit for tat” politics.I think we should aspire for a higher ground on this matter.
I really dont give a you know what for how the pakistanis would react to indian singer in their midst. i am damn proud that Indian TV has brought pakistani singers to bombay and given them a stage to perform on. I think it is only by this kind of one on one contact between average( non political) pakis and indians will our decades old distrust and hatred have any chance to dissipate..

Laloo’s show was as anticipated very hilarious.The set is paan ka stall , khatiya & there r few bakri’s(sheep) probably to compete with mauli.Aditya is wearing dhoti & the pics I saw,he was trying to jump infront of Laloo all the time & so does his Mataji –Mauli.Bhappi as usual stuck to Laloo like an ant,u know his habit of sticking to stars.So disgusting!
Amanat ali sang Bhojpuri song & asked laloo the sectret of his hair& laloo commented in his style! U watch it urself & enjoy! Laloo enjoyed poonam’s performance & she got once more for her paan khayo sainya hamaro! I am glad that Musarat also spoke to lalooji! My source informed it is a dhamal program don/t miss it!

i read recent diet of bhappi.Everyday morning for breakfast alone he eats-hold ur breath-
Poha,Eggs,Toast with butter & jam,large bowl of Cornflex,Milk,Juice & fruits.
reading this i am bursting.Now after eating such breakfast ,bhappi goes to sleep on the set( behind his dark glasses) when others r singing & wakes up only when Mauli croaks & screams that is why he is covinced that only Maulimata can sing & rest of them don’t!That is why all the time he talks about lower notes-that means-u don’t scream so how am i going to wake up & listen to u!The proof is that if u watch salman’s show where Mauli sang no entry song & then went to take blessings of bhappi,she touched his tummy &Salman burst out laughing & said that he had never seen any oone touching anyone’s Stomach to get the blessings.So Maulimata also knows the secret of her success,bhappi’s Tummy!!!This part was cut for us here i guess but u can see it on You Tube.

Judges giving 10/10/10 etc are really not helping contestants or public. Here is how they should do it. First make everyone sing, then they have the best and worst performances of the show, then each judge can give 10 to thier most liked performance and use that as reference to grade everyone else lower.
It will bring some much needed objectivity to the show. Going forward with competition as tough as it is now, such changes are very necessary.

You are right and wrong at the same time. You are wrong that Pakistani television and government would not allow Indian artists to come and sing/act in Pakistan, because many of them have come and have performed (as someone said above). But you are right that they may end up getting threats from religious fanatics as I believe Sonu ran into troubles when he came over and I wouldn’t be surprised if you send item girls to sing item numbers then the Mullahs would go bonkers. But please don’t send Rakhi Sawant, because if you do then I’d side with Mullahs as well.

Who agrees with me that Indian Idol and VOI are honestly following the public vote but SRGMPA isn’t?
Look, they’ve been voting out the best, Toshi is over rated and makes mistakes, I don’t know what Jatin Pundit smokes but Toshi is not that great of a singer. But I don’t think he should have been out so early (as the rumor suggest).
II3 has consistently removing the best and have left the worst for the last.
All this indicates that public are voting correctly and the organizers are following the public voting with all honesty.
SRGMPA on the other hand are dishonest in terms of getting votes, they advertise their voting window to last the whole week, but their voting window is too short because they shoot the episodes early in the week. On top of that, they’re not eliminating according to how junta is voting, so they’re dishonest all around.
Another proof of why I think I’m right: SRGMPA is hugely popular, it beats both II3 and SVOI hands down in ratings and public emotions. Are these not the signs of ignoring junta and running your show as politicians with a mind?

I dont think that khudkushi song is sung by Himesh himself but the music is by him….at least thats what Darling says.. This song kinda hints at professional suicide for Musarrat if he is waiting for guruji to hit the torch on the path to success.

Way back in 80s an African band, practically unknown, called “Osibisa” visited India and we rocked with them with the same ehthu we showed for Runa Laila from Bangladesh, Reshma, Nazia/Zoheb, and all those ghazal singers like Ghulam Ali, Mehdi Hassan etc from Pak. And ofcourse NFAK !!
I feel both our countries are so highly musically talented and its a shame to have to battle with political and religious sentiments before getting the freedom to express the talent on each other’s soil.

@Senty, just yesterday I was playing my fave Lata songs on a non-stop loop and thinking we should have people on this forum comment on what kind of songs people should pick to maintain the competition’s standard. Another way to phrase it: if there were a judges’ choice round (yeah, keep dreaming), what kind of songs should judges ask contestants to sing…and here’s my list, in no particular order-
1. Aapki Nazaron Ne Samjha (Anpadh)- Once upon a time you could tell who would be a winner on SRGM based on how well they sang this song…THAT’S how many people used to pick this gem.
2. Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (Manna Dey) - I’m known to fall in love with anyone who can sing any complex taraana well.
3. Chupke Chupke Raat Din (Nikah, Ghulam Ali)- Man, I so want Amanat to sing this ghazal one of these days!! I’m restricting myself to filmi ghazals in this list because they seem to be the most well-known ghazals these days.
4. Hosh Waalon Ko Khabar Kya (Sarfarosh, J. Singh) - Actually this isn’t even one of my most favorite ghazals, but I’ve known people who started appreciating ghazals BECAUSE of this one so I’ll put it here.
5. Tumko Dekha To Yeh Khayal Aaya (Saath-Saath, J. Singh) - Seems easy enough but that’s only if you sing all the notes really “straight”. To get ALL of it right is quite something, and needs some amazing gamak.
6. Suniyo Ji Araj Mhaari (Lekin, Lata) - The.Most.Amazing.Anyone. Has.Ever.Sung. I heard it throughout the length of my flight yesterday and it’s still playing in my mind.
7. Yaara Seeli Seeli (Lekin, Lata) Does anyone else think Hridaynath Mangeshkar is one of the most underappreciated music directors in the history of the world?
8. Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo (Monsoon Wedding, Farida Khanum)
9. Naino Mein Badra Chhaye (Mera Saaya, Lata)

I hope that I didn’t turn anyone off with my previous comments, I didn’t want to insult anyone just clear up the fact that this is an excellent opportunity for Pakistani and Indian people to enjoy each others music and opinions…
I truly feel that Pakistan should also hold something of this sort and that Indians should send good singers to the competition…
Maybe in the coming years with the broadening of technologies to the farther regions of each countries some of the biases can change to the positive…
I know that we on this forum have already discussed this many times over, but I just wanted to clarify my comments…

I know my list is very very odd. Many regular music listeners wont give it a second look because the songs are very rarely heard.
I hunt for such rare songs. Thats my timepass actually
In “Parakh”, Lataji’s “O Sajna barkha bahaar aayi” is most popular… but not the “Mere man ke diye” song which is more melodious.
I feel very fortunate that I caught these songs early on in my life and right now I am collecting them like its nobody’s business :0)
The “across the border” ones dont have great beats or attractive tunes.. but the lyrics are to die for.

Most of the songs on your list would make mine too, except I was consciously avoiding songs that (I think) people know about. That’s why there are so many ghazals too, some from lesser known movies. Getting people to give credit to underappreciated people has somehow become the mission of my life! Ask my why I like(d) Junoon’s music, and the answer is “because they make such good use of the tabla”. Once it entered my head that the tabla was the most fabulous instrument ever (I mean seriously, melody AND rhythm!) and under-appreciated, ALL I could hear when I listened to a song was whether it used the tabla or not and in what way. This is precisely why I liked Lukka Chhuppi (RDB) — the antara is so simple but the tabla..oh the timing, the taal used..all of it is just PERFECT and makes the antara SO MUCH more beautiful!!

Tora man darpan (Kaajal) is a Lata song. Sadly, not my favorite any more ’cause I totally dissected it in 10th grade for a competition (I won)! It’s like how your favorite chapter in the English textbook is no longer your favorite once the teacher has dissected it to bits. Ditto for Shokh Nazar Ki Bijliyaan (Woh Kaun Thhi). I couldn’t decide between this one and Aao Huzoor Tumko for another competition so practiced both, finally picked Aao Huzoor. Lag Ja Gale (Woh Kaun Thhi) is another great song that’s stood by me whenever I didn’t have time to practice, and I like it more than Naina Barse too, except I’m yet to sing the latter before an audience. I was going to include Chitra Singh’s Tu Nahin To Zindagi Mein (Saath Saath) but I sang it for a recital 2 yrs back and you know the story. I would play it day and night to get every nuance right and I haven’t heard it ONCE since the recital. Humne Dekhi Hai (Khamoshi) is one song I didn’t include on my list thinking then I’d end up including a whole lot of other songs that I consider are on the same ‘level’ of tough/easy (to be FAIR to them) and that would take too much time
Examples of that would be ‘Akele Hain Chale Aao Jahaan Ho’, ‘Zara Si Aahat Hoti Hai’,
The songs I can’t BELIEVE I missed out are Rasik Balma and KUHU KUHU BOLE KOYALIYA (OMG what an awesome song)!
I would also add Nadiya Kinare (Abhimaan)
I used the Monsoon Wedding reference because I was sticking to ghazals that have been featured in movies (for the convience of these bachchas on the forum, that is). Sheesh, I feel so old. Senty, I have to go check out at least half of your list dude (and that’s not even counting the across the border songs)! Pray that I am able to wait until the end of my “vacation”! Also, please check out teh album Beyond Time by J/C Singh if you haven’t already.
I’m tempted to add my fave non-filmi ghazals as well but…there’s the vacation in my way.
Don’t mean to sound petty, but if I were the award the bakery to one song it would be Suniyo Ji (Lekin).

Great songs are being mentioned and great instruments such as tabla. H&R, I feel tabla is the soul and life of Indian music. If you take it out, you don’t have any life left in that music. Well, I think Senty already knows where to go to see my favorite songs.
You girls should start writing your blogs with your favorite songs like I do. That way we all can share our favorites and learn about new songs.
Another good one is megha chhaaye aadhi raat from Sharmilee, and also tumhe dekhti hoon to from Tumhare liye. Both by Lata. Pawan deewani is lovely! That reminds me of aye ri jaane na doongi.
Btw, H&R, I thought tora man darpan of Kaajal was by Asha and not Lata. No? I could be mistaken though.

Thanks for the comment and as a Pakistani I’m commenting in the spirit of better understanding of two nations - i wanted to point out the fact that right wing extremists groups exist in both nations and have often been used by politicians to gain whtever advantage they can - i remember one time when Pakistani cricket team went to india, bal thakery and their organization had staged a lot of drama against them etc - so things like that have happened in both countries - but having said that i think atleast today’s generation realizes taht we do not want to just stick to the “tit for tat” politics and like you said Pakistanis for their country and for their region would also like to aspire for higher goals and get out of this circle of hatred that has been existing … like a common indian, any ordinary pakistni also wants peace, these wonderful cultural exchanges, having the bility to catch a train and go visit delhi or lahore stuff like that …
Just to clarify one more thing yes as some people already mentioned there have been lot of indian artists that have been acting in pakistani dramas, have visited pakistan in the recent years, among them akshay kumar (i feel thats why he made that comment about pak in SRGMP since has experienced the love from pakistanis when he visited), urmila, sushmita sen, shubha m. etc - have performed in pakistan in karachi lahore etc and have recieved exceptional treatment - (btw i am not denying there are extreme elements in pakistan and sometimes exaggerated more by the media but nevertheless this is not the norm in pak)…. okkay i’ll stop here and here is a collabortive video done by urmila and Shafqat Amanat Ali’s Fuzon group…

IMHO It would be a great disservice to Music across the Border if the name of Madames Munni Begum & Abida Parvin at least are not mentioned. Abidaji is the definitive colossus of Sufiana singing & Munni Begum is the Jagjit Singh of Pakistan (Easy on the ear/easy to understand).
For beginners I would recommend exploring Awaargi Mein by Munni Begum

ANEEK is singing like a professional singer. Look at his Versatility. He will be a great singer. Any type of song he can sing. Musarat, Raja, Amanat are also good singer but they have no versatility. They can not compete with Aneek in future… even any one of them win this challenge. Beleive me…….
In my opinion, Raja and Poonam should be in finals.
Himesh Reshmiya should not be allowed to talk all nonsense on this show. He is spoiling the image. Why should he be encouraged to talk someone’s personal life.

have you guys seen today’s Aneek’s performance? Great performance. I mentioned it earlier he is such a versatile singer….. Raja, Musarat, Amanat all are very good singer but they can sing only particular type of songs. But today Aneek sang Kisorda & Manna dey’s duet song by himself. He is true singer…. believe me.
