Hritesh says he is a big fan of Himesh and wishes him Belated Happy Birthday.. Himesh thanks him and says Anubhav is a very good director and has some good music dedicated in his name.. For Hritesh he says, the song featurized on Hritesh Jaane-be-ali actually changed Himesh to give new different types of songs..
Himesh says Aneek and Amanat sang very well today and Joy is a singer who sings “Bheegi Bheegi type of songs” for him to sing such different type of songs is difficult.. He did outstandingly well..
Performance by Trishanku:
Abhijit sings Gulabi Aankhein from The Train
Mussarat sings Kaun hain jo sapno mein aaya from Juk gaya aasman
Nirupama sings I love you from Hare Rama Hare Krishna..
Himesh says to public please note that Nirupama has sung the song which 2 playback singers have sung.. Ashaji and usha utup.. She wanted to try something different so I didnot want to stop her.. Its same with Mussarat.. He is a very good singer.. But he has a different genre and it would be better if he can stick on to that.. Vishal questions here about versatility again and says here we are to search for a talent who can sing all type of songs.. To this Anubhav comments saying if the singer is in safe zone then he can try any song but not one who is in danger zone.. Himesh agrees and says let them for now sing those which they are comfortable..
Mussarat gets green.. Himesh asks him to stick to his genre songs from next performance..
Abhijit also gets green.. Hritesh speaks in Marathi to Abhijit and i think he says you are not only a good singer, but also a good performer.. Bappida says he prayed to Siddhi Vinayak for him..
So. Nirupama is out..
The AV of her journey is shown.. All come to stage to console her.. Himesh asks her not to cry and says he will give her a break and she will sing a duet with him in the film where he is going to act, and also give music..

Nice review thanks.
I am yet to watch the show in the US.
Nirupama is out – not surprising. Though a talented singer, somehow she never stood out in her performances. Anyways, here is wishing her good luck. Hope she does well.

I am surprised Mussarat had yellow. I think it speaks volumes about what kind of audience is voting and for what reasons.
For the theme being the best times in Bollywood music history – 60s/70s, I am disappointed with some of song selections. Especially “gori tera gaon” or “I love you” (what song is this ??!!??)

To the previous anonymous poster – I agree, Musarrat is awesome. But the probem is everyone is stepping up. Harpreet, Junaid are giving mindblowing performances. The best will get voted out because best is not enough for the standard srgmp has risen to.
For now, Raja is the front runner… though I still believe Junaid or Aneek or Amanat deserve to be the toppers.
J A and A have unique voices. None that is already available in Bollywood. Whereas Raja’s voice is very similar to Kailash Kher.
Mukeshji, Kishoreda, Rafisaab, Lataji Ashaji, Manna Dey or the newer crop Sunidhi, Sonu Nigam, Kay Kay have their unique voice quality.
Whereas Shabbir Kumar, Mohd Aziz or even Abhijit (“Yes Boss”) didnt stand out as much because they dont sound very different. not that they were bad singers. Today, even Kumar Sanu is not getting that much work because he is so like Kishoreda.
Raja is again a front runner, he has the most unique & blessed voice among all the contestants, even the song “Tere bina from Guru” sounds much better in his voice than the original. Amanat & Aneek are very good, but they are best at playback singing, their singing lacks that enregy & charisma which raja has & that makes raja way apart from all his companions, Junaid still has to go a long way.
Sumedha is best, Poonam is a close competitor, it will be hell if mouli is given preference over them.
Still doubtful about saregama ranking….
Are people still watchin this stupid show??
“Are people still watchin this stupid show”"?
Sure, why not …. since you are stupid enough to visit this site
Thanks for such a great review, $hashi. Can’t wait to watch the show now that all contestants are singing great songs from 60s and 70s.
Poonam is the best singer in the show. Other than confidence issues no one can match that voice.
mauli back to square one….sucked bigtime again… watching her n listening to her sing is becoming like a nightmare!! wonder why why why does she have to make those bedroom noises in each and every song!! arrrgggggghhhhh
I am just crazy for the show , its my fav show. I am in melbourne and I can just watch this show online as I dont have indian TV here and the work these guys are doing is just awesome.
PS : To the dolt who said this show is stupid , why the hell did u even bother to come here then , go get a life !
Sad to see Musarrat in bottom 3 !!
According to me, Mouli-Joy-Nirupama desrved to be in bottom !!
None of teh female contestants have potential to be in top 10 very frnakly !
Mouli should go next, then poonam (She’s too loud, no sweetness in her singing at all), and then Sumedha(Though she’s the ebst among girls , she is still weak as compared to guys.)
The song selections were so so.
I absolutely loved Amanat singing Lataji’s ghazal. Superb performance. I also liked Aneek’s performance. Great !
Mauli – Why does she always start the songs in lower notes… it makes her sound very manly. She totally mis-tuned the whole “parde mein” song.
Poonam – bad song selection.
Junaid – Nothing great.
Harpreet – Nothing great.
Sumedha – Nothing great.
Musarrat – He is going downhill-fast. I blame Himesh for his bad performances. HR always puts down his shishyas saying “this is not your JONER” “Stick to your JONER”
I say, why does HR discourage his students so much ??!!? Musarrat is a great singer.. even outside his JONER. He just needs someone to tell him that!

BTW, to whoever said this is a stupid show, tum aurangazeb ke khandaan se ho kya ??

I have to agree I was not overwhelmed by the song selection because I love 60/70ies songs.. Poonam should have tried another song, maybe Hoton main aisi bath..I guess I’m only thinking that cause she looked so much like the actress in this episode: ) she really needs to work on a sweeter voice, sometimes it’s just to aggressive. In general they really need to take the song selection seriously!! Competition is getting tougher and I don’t think that Joy will make it far, I am surprised that he made it till here, also I’m afraid what’s gonna happen to the girls. I rather see Poonam and Sumedha make it to the very final rounds but One of them will have to go for Mauli I am sure..
Mussarrat believe in yourself and don’t let yourself down, you are such a great singer!!!
Also I am very annoyed by all that advertising that’s taking place, I know they have to show clips from movies when they invite people from that movie, but it’s totally partial when they pick movies from gurus and then it all about them, this is the second episode about Cash now..it’s not saregamapa’s duty to push movies. They should limit that or only take people that are not related to the show..it’s embarrassing!

27th Jul. episode was not as good as the previous one but there was another most important thing the elimination of Nirupama Dey. I think that was fair elmination according to her previous episodes performance. In other way if she wont be eliminated then Abhijit could have the chances for elimination according to me.
I’m totally agree with Preity36 who mentioned above in her comments about Mussarat. Yes, infact he’s not getting the true and deserving votes from public just because of patriotism bases. This is big flaw of this show which will surely influence badly to overseas contestant specially Junaid, Amanat & Mussarat. We just appeal & request public to vote for a better and deserving singer not for your local favorites. Try to look the whole features of performances and comparison should be made on performance otherwise we wont be able to justify with true and best singers in finals. Your justification is very important so please try to evaluate all the singing talent not your patriotism and racism. People of India should remember that event when Shilpa Shetty (Winner of CBB) had to face the racism challenge from Jade and then public protested all over the India against it and if it is all about Indian people and they believe in NO RACISM then why it always happening in the show that judges and contestant mostly request and appeal for votes from their particular and related areas where they belong and what about those overseas contestants. Why they always talk about Jay Maharashter, Assam, Bengal or UP etc. Isn’t this racism?? and isn’t this unfair with overseas contestant who have to also appeal vote from Indian people.
Anyway I hope most of the people wouldnt agree with the things shared above but this is fact. Let’s have a look at this episode’s performance. I think Sumedha, Amanat, Raja, Neelum & Junaid were fantastic. Aneek & Harpreet were also good but not much appreciatable. Did you guys guess that the Mussarat’s song tempo of the track was very fast as compare to the song and Mussarat had to struggle with the track. Quite hard to perform unbalanced tempo and I think Mussarat should have to work hard to choose the right songs which can he easily sing and HR should give sometime to polish his gharana member as ID, Bappi & VS are doing. I dont know why HR is only criticise the things always and I’m sure he will spoil his students life to put them in meaningless and worthless things. I’m not impressed again with Mauli’s Pardey Mein Rehne Do as she totally spoiled a very beautiful song sung by Asha Ji. Totally very different sur and she was struggling alot with the song and it sounds like she messing up with the surs. Well, let’s see Sat. Performances so that we can have good discussion on to contendors.
Thank you for reading.

mauli ure just awesome..therez absolutely no doubt abt it..uve got a luvly voice, a luvly smile n a very graceful personality.ure not only a mindblasting singer as well as a performer.dun giv a damn to all those craps who keep talking lyke diziraptures bcz they barely knw abt music..GO MAULIIIIIIIIIIIII
Some songs of 60/70 for the girls that would have made a dhamakedaar effect -
Tu jahan jahan chalega mera saaya saath hoga
Lag ja gale se phir yeh haseen raat ho na ho
Chain se humko kabhi aap ne jeene na diya
Raina beeti jaaye shaam na aaye
Honto pe aisi baat main dabake chali aayi
Jaa re jaa re ud ja re panchi
Poonam’s song selection was the worst. Next is Joy’s. Followed by all others. Except for Amanat and Aneek. Perfect song selection that showcased their vocals and emotions.
Mauli was bad. She sang the whole song in a lower note. Took the punch out of the sexy song.
C’mon guys – Give Mauli a break!! Learn to call a spade a spade. I agree, she’d been singing badly, but she seems to have sprung back to her original form.
Mauli was bad. She sang the whole song in a lower note. Took the punch out of the sexy song.
The above comment is well said. Mauli screws up each song to her own style. Her voice is nasal and the terrible horny sounds she makes, spoil any good song and make it sound cheap!!
“C’mon guys – Give Mauli a break!! Learn to call a spade a spade.”
Totally agree with you.
Lets call a spade a spade. Mauli needs a break from this show. Please give her the break !
I think voters are influenced more by the looks as far as women singers are concerned, and that is why we have seen women singers trying to be little more glamorous looking, and when they do, they seem to get more votes. Perhaps votes are also influenced by how much noise does the audience makes for a performance (performance, not song), which is bad . I don’t really agree with Vishal Shekhar that versatility is required in this show. Certainly it is needed, but speciality is very very important, just like a bharat natyam dancer can not do kathak and vice versa, and just like a heart surgeon can not perform brain surgery. Perhaps the show should try to find top singers for each type, versus a versatile performer.
“Certainly it [versatility] is needed, but speciality is very very important, just like a bharat natyam dancer can not do kathak and vice versa, and just like a heart surgeon can not perform brain surgery. Perhaps the show should try to find top singers for each type, versus a versatile performer.”
I disagree with this. Versatility is so important, because singers who master only one genre die out when their genre falls in demand. If you remember singers like Nihira and Hemachandra from SRGMP’s Challenge 2005, the reason they were so amazing was BECAUSE of their versatility. Look at legends like Lataji, Ashaji, Kishore Kumar, etc. and even contemporary singers like Sonu and Shreya…they are all so versatile. It is the defining factor of a good singer. To be good at anything, you have to polish your weaknesses as well as your strengths: it`s how you improve and move forward.
I completely agree with Surili above. The comment made me realize of how the standards have fallen (overall) over the years….to think this is the same show that gave us Sanjeevani and Shreya Ghosal. Even Nihira (my absolute fav) and Hemachandra were SO GOOD. I don’t think it’s clear to anyone any more what this show is trying to be, or what its winner is going to be — a performer who does stage shows in New Jersey and San Jose doing cover versions of popular songs, or a playback singer?
I think all of the remaining contestants are pretty good. There are a few exceptional ones out of this entire list. They are as follows:
1. Amanat
2. Anik
3. Mussarat
4. Raja
5. Poonam
The ones left out from the above list are good singers and have performed well some of the time, but definitely not all of the time.
Some suggestions to the show producers regarding the upcoming “Maha Gurus”:
1. Dev Anand & Dilip Kumar (Songs from 50s and 60s)
2. Lataji – She is so great that she can’t share the stage with anyone else. (Obviously all songs from Lataji)
3. Rajesh Khanna & Sharmila Tagore (Songs from their films)
It is already determined that the songs from 50s/60s/70s are the best songs that have been written, composed, and sung in the history of Indian cinema. Why not continue to showcase these songs with the formats suggseted above.
Keep up the great work!!!
