All the drama continues on Saregamapa - Judges fight with Asha Bhosle

Written on May 25, 2007 – 4:10 am | by admin |

The coming Saturday’s episode will see a huge argument on the sets between the judges over Sarika Singh, a contestant from Madhya Pradesh, who fainted on the sets of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 out of fear of getting eliminated from the show (Watch video of this drama here). The contestant belongs to Vishal and Shekhar’s Hit It Gharana.

Ashaji not pleased

Reportedly, Asha Bhosle was unhappy with her performance. According to her, the song’s sur and taal were not in order. Vishal and Shekar were not in favour of Asha’s judgment.

In fact, they fought with Asha on this. Sarika Singh sung Lata’s song Bhiga Bhiga where Asha passed her remarks.

The next episode she sung Sunidhi’s song Bhage re mann from the movie Chameli and was highly appreciated by all the mentors from Ismail Darbar, to Bappida (Himesh was not present).

Everyone on the sets were impressed by her song and she was applauded by all the judges of the gharanas, but Asha again ended up remarking on her sur and taal not being in co-ordination!

Brahmastra blues

At this, Vishal and Shekhar hit out. Says Vishal, “Sarika is a very good singer. The only concern for Shekhar and me is to hone the ability of the singer.

No disrespect to Ashaji’s decision. She is a guru but Sarika’s performance was par excellence as compared to other performers on that day.”

Vishal further adds, “ we have the Brahmastra where we get to choose one of the contestant who was eliminated, and all the judges of the gharanas have decided to get Sarika back.”

Asha Bhonsle is out of country and was not available for comment.
According to the sources, none of the judges are happy with Asha’s judgment and fed up with the kind of remarks she passes.

I think you shouldnt let Asha be head judge

the difference between age and thinking is too big. There won;t be 1 show where there wont be discussions
My opinion; Take Alka Yagnik as head judge she is far more interested in sa re ga ma and she actually helps people with her comments AND the other judges love her too.

@Ankur..somehow i agree with you. This all drama happens cos of age difference..as well as egos(thats the main cause)….let the people of saregamapa realise that this is talent hunt and not a drama serial

knowdoubt sarika is a good singer and as a listner point of view i found she sang best among three, but i think ashaji judge with sur and tal. so we should respect her judgement, but sarika should got a chance. As a listner point of view judge should emphasise on how for the singer reproduce the expression of song and nodoubt then the sur and tal.i complitely diagree the age difference point for Ashaji, its the different judging angle which cannot match our expection.

i actually think its not fair at all. Sarika was good comparatively to the others not only that in the episode i found ASHAji unfair. the reason for this is she was coaching jyoti the way she should have sung and gave her a chance to perfect, but for Sarika saying sur and taal is not in coordination isn’t good enough. If you can give JYOTI many chances on stage i believe you can give Sarika another chance.

i believe sarika sing very well.that is why she fainted.she knew she was good i think is will come back.so lets hope for the best.

sarika was best among all the singers. Jyoti should have been eliminated instead. May be Ashaji has some problem because the song was originally sung by Lata Mangesker. I heard the original song and Sarika’s voice and the tone of song was exactly similar to original song. Ashaji should make it clear why sarika was eliminated. Ashaji left the stage and show before Sarika was eliminated, because she know that the decision was not correct and will backfire.

I do not agree with one of the earlier comment which says “If you can give JYOTI many chances on stage i believe you can give Sarika another chance.”. Jyoti did not sing well so she got chance to fix it. Jyoti’s song was flat when listening. Sarika’s song was perfect and should not been eliminated, not question of giving chance.

                  Hey all!
Well, after watching the last episode and reading everyone’s comments, I am left with an extremely bitter taste. First of all, decision made is final…or I guess not completely, since there is Brahmastra, which could possibly bring Sarika back. Honestly, the show has been totally turned into a dramatic reality show. The 5 judges are full of themselves, lacking all compassion to at least give the singers some constructive feedback, while it is only Ashaji who could actually care to help the singers to reach their full potential. Without her the show would be a complete set up and filled with drama. Sarika may be a good singer, but she really does not seem receptive to recieving advice in order to grow as a singer, unlike Jyoti who takes the time to patiently listen. By the way, the last show was a complete set up…like who can explain to me for crying out loud..why would you faint on national television like its the end of the world!?!?! For all those who think a judge like Alka Yagnik would do better, you too are wrong because after seeing her on lil’ champs, she seemed kinda self-centered as well.Anyway, this is just another reality show, enjoy it while it lasts and appreciate all the singers, no matter what and look beyond the drama for once!

                    A few more comments…

Many earlier comments are bang on.

                    1. The 5 gurus are full of themselves. (partly agree)…Except Bhappi all of them are. Ranking them in arrogance (in descending order - starting with the biggest attitude, arrogance and going down)…
                    - Himesh…this guy is irritable or rather he is VIP - Very Irritating Person). He feels he is God…He can make a singer a superstar..Incidentally, I do not see that many songs released for Vinit Singh (Himesh had promised to make him a superstar). He talks about getting roti for these young kids..The kids should be taught what Asha ji said…Pursue Saraswati (learning of music) and Laxmi (wealth) will follow. Himesh has no respect for tradition or talking with elders. He is taking his current ’success’ for granted and throws challenges to any and sundry and keeps losing his temper or just is good at acting his tantrums…He makes me sick.

                    2. Vishal Shekar: Have caught onto the Himesh bandwagon a bit too early. They should not tout singers before they have even performed. They need to temper their over confidence a little bit. Let their guys and gals peformance speak rather than saying ‘this guy/gal will take the finals when even the first song is not sung’.

                    3. Ismail saab: He used to be so good in last year’s episode…Very fair…He even praised opposing singers and was rough on his own gharana people. This year he is becoming like Himesh…a little bit…Mere baap…Ismail saab..Please maintain your old self and we will be very very happy. Do not get arrogant like Himesh. That H is an Ass….

                    4. Bhappi da: Very good so far..Least conceited of the gurus..

                    About the Sarika Singh episode…

                    1. She was over hyped by her gurus even before she started.
                    2. No one noticed she was singing staccato (does not matter it was a Lata song or not).
                    3. Her body language was not friendly. It was like she was singing as if she had already won. You sing for people to enjoy, appreciate the song and touch their hearts. Her actions were like I am singing like Lata so just listen…This pisses people off….

The other girls showed tremendous potential beyond their current song. This should have forced ashaji to make the decision she made.

This was further amplified by Sarika;s decision not to comment when she was eliminated. She should take such things sportingly. You win or lose small battles but you have to win the war. You cannot always assume that you will win. or that every song of yours will be a hit. again shows her attitude.

I am fully in sync with Ashaji’s decision. Let the gurus bring her back with brahmastra…hopefully Sarika will learn to sing for people by then…

Bottomline…Himesh should leave the show..He is too much of a distraction. The banging on tables. Too much kisiko kuch kehna hai to mujhse kahe …bull shit…that is not music we have come to enjoy and expect from SareGaMAPa.

On a side note, why is there animosity between Ashaji and Himesh.

Himesh was once asked why he sings nasal…He said even previous singers/composers were quite nasal and gave RD Burman as an example…To which Ashaji said that she would like to slap the next time she sees Himesh…So you can see that tension everytime…

I agree with Belgamkar on all counts. These guys think that they have a few hits under their belts that they now rule the world. In my opinion, the music they churn out will not be listened to 30 years from now because it is so crappy, except Bappida’s, whose song “Dil main ho tum” and many others still stir tremendous emotion and feelings in me. We still listen to goldies from the past and they are just as refreshing as they were then.

Apart from Bappida, I think the others are a waste of time, even Esmail Durbar, big difference from last year, which really surprises me! It seems that the judges are just content with putting down their opponents participants, they do not volunteers any positive feedback unless it is their own singer. I felt reallt bad for Imran when his own guru asked him how long his flight had been and asked him to pack his bags! I don’t think Imran is the loser but his gurus are definitely the biggest losers due to the fact that they didn’t offer him the proper advice or choice of song.

I watched Bappida on L’l Champs and I really liked the way he encouraged the youngsters even when they didn’t sing well.

I am sure these guys had humble beginnings before they got to the stage they are at and I think they seem to have forgotten that. The singers are nervous and ill at ease when performing. They are actually scared that they will make a mistake and will be eliminated. They aren’t having any fun because of the way their Gurus behave. Some of these gurus actually need to go for public relations courses before they open their mouths on national TV. The fact that Shekhar/Vishal can humiliate their own competitor from South Africa goes to show that they don’t have what it takes to train these singers, let alone compose music. Unfortunately, the singers here are stuck with these losers and have no choice but to put up with them.and hopefully make a career. The least the gurus can do is treat them with dignity and respect, same as they expect their singers to do to them. Teach them not just how to sing well, but to become good human beings through music. But I think they need to learn that themselves first before they can impart that knowledge to anybody else.

As for Ashaji’s judgement on Sarika, I think she did well. Sarika’s body language was totally hostile and unreceptive to any advice. I don’t think Sikander should have gone forward because he sang that song without any emotion or expression on his face, more mechanical and just going through the paces. The original song is for a person who is intoxicated with alcohol and love. Non of that was apparent in the song, especially after he ahd just got married? Imran’s rendition had more emotional dard. just his bad luck that his gurus had already painted him in a bad light to begin with.

One thing is clear - Talent shows such as SaReGaMaPa are now mainstream - they define the life of individuals.

Thus, it is important to define what a specific program’s goals are for each of these talent contests such as SaReGaMaPa, Indian Idol, Amul Voice of India, Antakshri etc. That way, the contestants are clear - whether to focus on heritage songs, new songs, songs with good lyrics, songs with good beat etc.

In my mind, the only thing all of these shows are trying hard to lure is more MONEY. The interests of the contestants are secondary.

If we talk about the format, SaReGaMaPa should bring back the format followed when Sonu Nigam hosted the show.

Considering today’s shows, I believe that Amul’s Voice of India beats SaReGaMaPa (though this is a “global” show).

When SaReGaMa emerged, it was one of a kind real talent show, with no parallels anywhere on the face of the earth. It had a dignity of its own and if a contestant could make it, it was indeed a personal and professional honor.

It does not need “judges” marketing their own talents and needs.Hosts like Shaun, Sonu nigam and Judges who can grace the competition like Bappi Lahiri, Asha Bhosle, Jagjit Singh, Jatin Lalit, Hariprasad Chaurasia etc, etc, real musicians , that maintain a certain standard and are instrumental in mentoring budding artists.Today we need good clean music.I am thrilled to see that there is a huge influence of classical base among the contestents, be it lil champs or grown up contestants. We need to encourage and facilitate to bring forth these young talents not squash them.

Please do not bring back egomaniacs like Himesh Reshmmia, vishal skekhar or Ismail darbar and the likes of them. Please preserve the professinal nature of the show and not taint it with politics.

Belgamkar is an a*#@hole, and so is this anonymous guy. If Sarika is so bad, why the f*#@ would she be chosen in the first place. Her reaction when asked how was she feeling was perfectly natural, people who have seen too many soap operas on T.V might have forgotten what real life is like, but I don’t see that many shows, so it’s quite natural. When u know u r deserving then when u r treated like that, u definitely don’t feel like SHARING your feelings with the world. Sarika is a true talent, and saregamapa is a talent search, not a popularity show, based on personality. Othe rgirls are way way below her, and its a shame what Asha Bhonsle did. Legends like Asha Bhonsle and Lata Mangeshkar are not supposed to be the pall bearers of mediocrity, at least we, the people have much higher expectations from them, but the last two shows just pointed out very brutally, that this is what they are aiming at – MEDIOCRITY. Or was it favouritism? Or some old personal grudge? I do know that the sister duo has long ruled the Bollywood nest by groupism, and innumerable manipulations, most of which are lost under the facades of glory, and legends surrounding the sisters. There are countless tales of failed initiations into the bollywood in yesteryears, all of which ended in tragedies for the singing hopefuls, out of one mysterious reason or the other. Most of them have later been attributed to the shrewd string pulling of either of these two – Lata or Asha. I really do not even know, if my allegations are pointing towards the right direction – maybe the organizers of the show prefer their show to be just that – mediocre. Even if you see the show previous to that, Sikander who won the green signal, was in other words – simply ordinary. For god’s sake, he can’t even sing one note steadily!!! And everybody is sitting still, smiling and approving when he’s given the green signal, what a farce! My next question is, is this the PAKISTAN episode of SAREGAMAPA? I mean, there are definitely good singers of caliber like Musharrat, Junaid and Amanat, but Wasi and Sikander??? Hell no! Anyway, I just wanted to inform the organizers that they have lost another audience, and a believer. I had pined hopes only on Zee TV to give us a true verdict, a bombshell who would take the industry by storm, and sadly with the demise of Sarika from the show, they have lost that chance. Long live Asha Bhonsre.

As a judge, he did make honest comments. Though, he was never polite to Amir Hafez, as I have noticed. Ever since the first day Amir came on to the show, Suresh has done nothing, but give put downs. He never smiled, and showed careness, like he did for the other children. Sonu Nigam is another reason. Due to these judges’ comments, the citizens of India, and others have been enouraged/influenced to vote for others, instead of Amir. It also discourages Amir from singing properly, with confidence. This relates to Amanat. These singers are gifted, they need to be in the first or second position.

All I want to say is that I saw Asha Bhosle as a judge on a singing talent show on Sony TV recently, unfortunately cannot remember the same but I felt that she behaved very arrogantly whilst judging the contestants, and you were very lucky to see the lady smiling, that one would think her face would crack if she smiled, and I was totally shocked to see such behaviour from a well known singer of yester years, and she just kept complimenting her work and what she used to do etc when she used to go for recordings, fair enough that was then but this is 2008 and we have excellent talent out there so why not accept that and encourage them instead of just putting yourself forward all the time which is what she did the women has no charm, totally unbelievable, does she think she is the only decent singer left? I just couldnt understand her attitude, I just want to say that such singers should encourage new talent, accept them and not keep putting hereself forward, becos I am sorry but she isnt a brilliant singer anymore theres better voices in the world now that are waiting to be recognised and be given the chance to sing, and make a place for themselves but until the old singers dont give them the chance this cant really happen and this nonsense about that noone can be like the old singers I dont want to mention any names is pathetic why cant others be better, its totally nonsense, i just wwish good luck to the newcomers, and Ms Bhosle needs to retire now she looks horrible when she appears in the songs hereself and think she looks something wonderful shen she simply doesnt.
